[QUOTE=blitzkriegs;47086987]Is JT buying dogs or trying to win the friggin game? /QUOTE]
C'mon, seriously? You really think if he had a choice, DP wouldn't much much much rather be out there trying to win a game than doing this?
The way some fans talk, you'd think he injures himself on purpose.
Sadly this actually beats the hell out of him playing in a game at this point in his career. Still 5000*$7 (Im guessing since I dont eat hot dogs or drink soda) = $35,000. Very nice of Dipi.
Lol. A hot dog alone is 6. Soda is another 4-6.25. So say just 10 a person. 50 grand. Pretty awesome of the guy who could honestly just fade into the distance & not be heard from and most other fans would not care less
If its a charity item, he's paying full fare. If its not, sure Charlie lets him pay cost so maybe 2500-5000.
Nice gesture but it's selfish. The guys been on IR most of the season and doesnt want the fans to forget about him. He gets to "interact" with fans so he can personally tell them he's recovering and be back next year.
There is zero benefit to this as an organization - its Wang letting DP do this which is freaking sad.
Is JT buying dogs or trying to win the friggin game? Why couldn't the Isles just give away the vouchers and not have DP attached to it?
Wang is trainwreck to think this is a good idea for the fans.
Holy overreaction. Its a guy trying to do a nice thing for the fans on fan appreciation day. It is actually the opposite of selfish...
At season's end, there are 5-6,000 broken hot dogs in the cooler due to normal wear and tear, so this is how you get rid of them. Broken serving broken.

I'm not dismissing the gesture. DP is solid for doing this.
But at COST, 5,000 hot dogs runs about $350-400 and the soda is about $60.
It's not $50,000. If it were, we'd have the finest beer on planet Earth handcrafted by Monks and blessed by the Pope one bottle at a time.

For what us "Fans" have had to endure these past 5 years, let alone the last 18 years, I think we are worth more then a hot dog and a small soda. I say that as someone who has spent thousands on Season Tickets the last few years, but I dropped them after last year. And in order to feel that "appreciation" you gotta get there early and be one of the "lucky" first 5,000 . To add insult to injury and pun intended, Rick DiPietro—product of the Mad Mike factory and favorite of the cheap Chairman Wang gets to give you that Hot dog and small soda (only if your "lucky" enough to be No. 1–No. 5,000). Christ, at least he could have made it a chipotle or a P.C. Richards gift card for everyone in attendance. See when you spend wisely to compete on the ice, you don't need to give out hot dog money and limit it to 5,000 fans no less .

The beat goes on and on...
You get Ice Girls and player of the game rituals, too.

right, at cost, however, the revenue that those 5k hotdogs were initially supposed to bring in was 30,000, not 400. thats a big difference in the books of any company, let alone one that loses cash every year. and your probably a little off on those numbers. 5000 hot dogs and 5000 sodas dont cost 400 and 60 dollars respectively. if a 20 ounce soda costs wang 50 cents, thats still 2,500 in sodas, which is a far cry from the 20 thousand it was initially slotted for, and if the dogs cost a quarter, which im sure they dont, its 1,250...again, huge difference from the 30 thousand they were intended to bring in.
If you have a widget for sale, and you have it tagged for $500, even though your company paid 80 for it, and it is the main item used to make your money...now you go and start selling them for $175(for whatever reason you want:economy, competition, nice gesture), which is still over twice what you paid. you wont feel that in your pocket, or books, when selling maybe 100-200 of them at that cost? what about 1000 or them?

Really? The guy most NYI fans as sick of and the organization continues to push onto the NHL ice fully knowing he's not a NHL player?
With Wang saying snow and Cappy are returning just supports this gong show move. When a player is out for the season, he doesn't participate in giving away hot dogs, nor should the team be promoting that.
Hmmm...not too long after Nabby signs a one year extension DP needs to find a way into the public after zero info on the guy since he went down again.

LOL way to let your hate of the guy get in the way of common sense. Even if it was a PR move who cares it was fan appreciation day. I do not want DP on the team but a PR hot dog giveaway is no reason to blast the guy or the team.
Blast the team for not being competitive for the last 20 years or blast DP for being the worst goalie in the league.
You can be sure that DP paid probably 30% of what the retail price is for each of those items..So if a hot dog and a soda is $10, he maybe paid $3. Like others said, it also allowed them to get rid of alot of inventory. Its entirely possible that he didnt pay anything and its just some stupid PR stunt.
I was at the game.
Heard over the PA address that DP did this. Since I was already through the turnstile, and NOBODY at MY entrance had ANYTHING ON THIS, I went through the concourse to find out what is going on.
Did a full once around the coliseum, and found out that he was at ONE gate --- and may have gotten crushed by fans and it may have ended prematurely. I asked one of the girls behind the counter to toss me one without a voucher=-and she said "I can't, they are all accounted for"... Meanwhile.. they were all pre-packaged and I'm sure barely cooked.. And I'm sure that they are all now in the garbage.
So, moral of the story? LOL.. as usual... HORRIBLE execution of this idea by Isles mgmt.
nothing new.
Goodbye Isles, it was my last home game (not renewing season tix) for A LONG LONG TIME.
Side note: Won a Streit used stick during the giveaways. They also gave away Gary Nylund plaque or something. No ****. Gary Nyland.. unreal.

I got to the game around 2:40 with my buddy and our daughters. Dippy was signing in Knuckleheads. There were a couple of people waiting for him and some security guys who told us DiPietro was done meeting people.
Luckily someone on line let our girls come with them to meet Rick. My buddy and I were shut out but the girls were happy, so that worked out.
The funniest part of the game, other than the play of our "team" was explaining to the girls why my friend and I were cracking up about the Gary Nyland autograph prize. Maybe in 2015 they will put up a Mark Lawrence signed stick for fan appreciation day.
I was impressed by the Yankee donated prizes. Those were probably the best of the lot.

If you are a business and a cheapskate, you're shorted fans untold millions on the cap floor, refused to address specific needs and produce a losing team, you can either spend $10,000,000 to fix a few needs and improve the fan experience greatly....
or spend $400 (yes, soda is that cheap, cups and lids cost four or five times what the soda does and hot dogs in bulk are dirt cheap as well - and they reportedly weren't the concession stand quality) on the promotion, forsaking the maybe 2 or 3,000 fans purchases (they will likely buy something else later that game anyway).
Wang spent a trifle to send goodwill and a trifle in league comparison on the team.
And your widget pricing analogy is irrelevant. This isn't a food sales endeavor but a goodwill gesture to allay fans dissatisfaction. If you get food poisoning in an eatery, are you very concerned the owner is giving away free food after the fact? Do you praise the owner's generosity?
Wang HAS TO do as much of this as possible given his tenure as owner and the fanbase becoming more and more disinterested every day.
Ya wonder why he pushes so hard for kids and moms and so little for rabid fans.

The dogs and beer are inventory Wang gets rid of.
The dogs and beer are $400 or so we'll say. (bulk rate)
The sales lost are $6 X 5,000 = $30,000 on the books when Wang writes them off as a promotional expense, so.....Wang MAKES MONEY on the items. Deduct the $30,000 from his overall gross revenue and his tax liability is reduced.
The best part: the man who loses 20,000,000 dollars each year (what cable contract?) can claim he lost $30,000 doing this.

No use trying to make a point around here with some of the Kool-Aid drinkers. Some people will defend this cheap/criminal/SOB to no end.
An oldie, but goodie: Wang saved the Isles from moving, meanwhile, no matter "who" bought this team, no one could move the team until 2015.
This Guy has NOT lost 240 million during his 10 years of ownership.
Also during his Lying marathon yesterday, when he said, There is a lot of blame to go around Nassau, TOH...he forgot to tell the audience that 50% of the reason there is no new or refurbished Coliseum was he himself, Charles Wang.
geez rough crowd.. Even when the guy tries to do a nice thing he gets abused.. he could have done NOTHING... Arguing about how much a hot dog or soda cost, really?.. it was a nice gesture.. I have never been a DP apologist but I may be headed there after this thread, as this guy seems to be hated for getting a big contract from ownership, then becoming injury prone and trying to hold on too long (i admit that in his situation i may have done the same thing as I am sure it is tough to give up on your dream considering where his level of play had gotten before the injuries).
Should we abuse Wang next for matching the contributions for funds raised for NCMEC at the game on thursday? Maybe he should have tripled it the greedy bum...
Remember one thing, whether you hate the guy or not, he didn't have to do this. Even if it cost him nothing, it was a nice gesture to reach out to the FANS on FAN APPRECIATION DAY. Nothing more, nothing less.
