I'd be cool ok with losing that chant, but I think that's a much larger task than people think it might be. I've never been a fan of Rock N Roll II anyway

I think I'm just so used to it after 13 years that I don't think twice about the song. If we change it, fine. If we don't, fine. I think it'll just be difficult to fuse in another song with the Tim McGraw one. And I assume they plan on keeping that around awhile since they filmed a new video for it with him wearing the yellow jersey.
Now the rest of the article I disagree with heavily.
The article makes a very weak argument against the song. It would be more effective to use the Pedophile angle than using the "makes us look like stupid hillbillies" angle.
Reading the comments under the article shows that most Preds fans have no issue with the goal celebration. I'm included in that group.
Let's keep discussion of criminal charges out of this. If you want to discuss the merits of removing the song because of his criminal history then it should be taken to the political forum.

That fact was discussed during the lead up to the Super Bowl this year. I have no issue with a change to the goal song, but, it has to be driven by the fanbase not some online marketer with a diatribe at OTF. Let's face it, even without the personal baggage of Glitter, the song is 40 years old and has enjoyed varying degrees of acceptance at sports venues over that time. I'm not convinced a goal song is really needed. Some of us remember when the only music at a sporting event was an organ, now we need a song for everything.
Isn't this song used as the majority goal scoring song across college campuses in the north everywhere for hockey? Honestly, I think he's got a point..the song is old and we need a new one. But to think this is the reason northern hockey fans don't like us...is just stupid. They don't like us because we're southern hockey fans...simple as that, there's nothing else to it. If we win a stanley cup or two..they'll be forced to respect us and they will hate it.
Eventually, enough teams will say "every team has that song" that nobody will have that song and it will be unique again. It's down to just us and the organ version that the Sharks use, IIRC.
The Preds tried to change the goal song to "Bro Hymn" a few years back and the backlash was so fierce that they changed it back the very next game. That tells me that the fans want the ILILI/R&R2 combo to stay. I'm with them.
It's going to be around for a while long no matter how anyone feels about it. The reason why is that this team is still attracting newer fans and first timers at a high rate. It's not "old and tired" or gimmicky to these fans. It will be years until the new fan rate levels off and the market stabilizes. Only then will the "You Suck" traditions have a chance to see the novelty wear off and actually have the majority of fans cease participation in them.
At the very least another 5-7 years. IMO it'll be 8-10 years realistically.
Uh oh, I smell another deluge of "get rid of fang fingers" postings on the way as well. While we are on game ops....kudos to 303 for picking up their tempo recently. After a bit of lacking in their leadership, I've been impressed with their serenade of "Old MacDonald" the last visit by the wings, and TRYING to get the PEKKA PEKKA PEKKA chant through The Bridge. Why that hasn't swelled like the Vo-kuuuuuuuuuun, I'm still at a loss. MSG just echos with HEN-RIK HEN-RIK every game I've seen on t.v. Also, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let "Run This Town" be the song for the playoff video!!!!

FWIW, the DW and I have stopped the "you suck!" during R&R pt II. We've started chanting " Go Preds!" instead. Gotta start somewhere.
When we score I think you suck is fine but I agree that after the game is already over it's kind of pointless to say it. That's when we could say go Preds instead.
