The Wizard, Ray Whitney scores 1000th point.

I believe he's the first person drafted by the Sharks to reach that milestone? Marleau's still 175 away.

He is magic at 39. Dear science I wish we had kept him all these years.

Good for him. That goal in double OT to beat 2nd seeded Calgary will not be forgotten.

Now don't score any more points this season and lose some games.

Guy murders us every game. I hate that. But he is a great player

On one hand, I like the fact that we drafted someone who has aged timelessly and had one of the best 30's in recent memory of a person who is clearly not a superstar. Hell, he'll beat Gretzky's total at 39 by over twenty points most likely.

On the other, I think we may face them in the playoffs. If Mike Smith holds it together and Ray and some other guys come up with some timely offense, they could go deep. I can't name a single non-Yandle defensemen off the top of my head, but hey- good goaltending wins playoff games.

Ray Whitney is a lousy shark caretaker. But he's a great hockey player!

We can dream can't we? Whitney at 40 is better than a lot of our players at 30.

Which former Sharks winger gives us more nightmares, Selanne or Whitney?

I'd say Whitney, he's a bigger part of the Yotes' offense than Selanne is of the Ducks'.

Isn't he their leading scorer?

They both lead scoring for their teams. I was thinking whitney does it as a first-liner while teemu does it as a second-liner, but of course the RPG line is broken up so ... *shrug*
Whitney's got 11 more points?

That's true, I guess even though Teemu is leading scoring on his team, the Yotes depend more on Ray.

Though we shouldn't discount former-Shark Selanne playing on a team of good offense talent having a bad year minus him.

Hard to say when both of them have killed us this season at different points.

Congrats to Ray. Wish he was still a Shark player.

He's provide some scoring depth for sure. Not sure of he'd sign for the discount / cap we'd have and or could offer.

I remember Drew talking about the circumstances of Whitneys release from the Sharks, something about the Sharks front office diciding that Ray Whitney does'nt have what it takes to be a NHL'er. Anyone remember any details? I want to know who to be pissed at!

I've always liked Whitney. But....
His legacy is a loooonnngg career. His best year with Sharks was a minus player and has never played all 82 games in season. Career -75.
Is he better than Marleau? Deserving of more San Jose accolades?
People here bash Patty but praise Ray... Don't get it.

Okay, flame on.

The lockout definitely helped him become much more effective. He's been a good player.
