Charles Wang confirms Garth Snow and Jack Capuano will be back next season.
This is just stupid. Wang has nothing to gain from saying that. And Capuano has done absolutely nothing to show he deserves another year of head coaching.

I had hope to see Cappy replaced.Disappointing news.
For the record, I think Snow has done a great job considering the financial constraints he's had. I want a proven head coach to replace Capuano though.
On one hand, I can't see how Wang could've answered that question in a way that wouldn't have been wrong. He could've said he'll evaluate things at the end of the season and during the summer, but it would be tough going forward and into the offseason with uncertainty and speculation. Plus, there are still games to be played this year, even if they don't mean anything. He couldn't have singled one out and say the other is safe, so he went with the answer that follows the path of least resistance.
On the other hand, giving his inept track record and businessman attitude, you have to believe he's being serious and would keep his word by bringing back his guys. He didn't even give Howie his typical "Garth has always had the green light to spend" propaganda either when asked about spending around the cap floor.
That interview gave us absolutely ZERO hope as fans now, next season, and in the next 3 years. He mentioned how much he's invested in "the process," yet he's clearly either not committed, not smart enough, or doesn't have the people in place who are smart enough to realize that deviating from a process that hasn't worked is what the organization needs.
I really feel like there's nothing that can be done at this point. We have the talent to maybe squeak into the playoffs the next few years, but history has proven that we won't live up to that potential. We'll never be able to compete with a decrepit arena, an owner who won't spend and a minor league coach. We're a lame duck fan base for the next 3 years and reality sucks.
I was watching this with my wife's Grandfather (93) and I was super close to saying "Mother .......!!!". Instead, I just shook my head in silent disappointment.

A great job???? If A lottery pick each year for the last 7 years is a great job for you then please tell me you manage a company and if so can I get a job working for you.

I meant in terms of rebuilding the prospect pool which was absolutely barren back in 2008 and acquiring some NHL talent for nothing (Grabner, Moulson, Parenteau, etc). Considering the limitations, he's done a better job than most could've. I've never really had a huge problem with any of the moves he's made. The only issue I have is the lack of significant moves and big trades, which I think is more a result of Wang and the arena situation than the GM. Sure a lot of the free agent signings have sucked, but were any of them expected to be stars anyway?
It again shows us who is calling the shots. Where else is he going to find a GM and Coach that will work cheap and not rebel against the party line. This is also a prelude to AGAIN Not signing any REAL Free Agents. It's a shame that they have a cornerstone star in Tavares, and they won't surround him with any real talent. What a waste !
This organization is a joke, and will remain so until there is a new address or Wang sells the team.

This idea that Capuano and Snow were hired by Wang because they have cheap contracts is absurd. There are many coaches in the league, they all have short shelf lives, and they all want into the NHL (this includes the experienced ones). None of these coaches would be expensive to bring in. The demand is set based on job openings, and there aren't many. No, this isn't being cheap. This is the Isles believing that keeping things in-house is the way to go.
Your second point however, is valid. Wang tried bringing in an experienced GM (Neil Smith), and he eventually got fired for not buying into Wang's ways of doing things. Whether or not this will pay off remains to be seen.
It's also important to point out that as much as we don't think Capuano is the right guy for the job (myself included), we do not have an NHL corps of dmen. We also have forwards that do not belong in the NHL. That is on Garth. The Isles are on pace to finish with 80 points. That is a 7 point improvement from last year. On paper, can anybody say that the roster we had this season was one of the top 8 in the Eastern conference? I can't. With that being said, while we can benefit from a tougher coach, the roster needs improvements. Until that happens, a coaching change won't help us much.
The defense needs a major overhaul. The bottom 6 needs to get tougher.
"I am committed to the fans and the team." "We love the fans. We had a good season with the fans... who ever thought Okposo or Bailey would have come flourishing towards the end of the season."
Uh, yuk yuk. I bet even Garf had a good chuckle over that one.
"When you improve a team it isn't only spending money. It's bringing in... the right kind of talent and we are trying to do it. . . You bring in a few veterans... You have to look at the kids we have today, some of them are veterans... 3 or 4 seasons makes you a veteran."
You sack! You lying sack of ****! You are counting the kids with a few years under their belts as veteran help to guide the club!?!?!?
I really don't know how anyone can defend this guy after he says this crap. If anyone here thinks Charles is going to let Garf spend to improve the defense now, let alone the club in general, then I don't know what to say to you anymore. Just put the blinders on, cover your ears, and continue to live in the fantasy world you've built for yourselves far, far away from what we here on Earth call "reality."
My interest in this team is waning every time Wang speaks about the hockey operations aspect of the club.
Why the hell should either of these 2 fools be back? But above all, why should Capuano be back? He's one of the worst coaches in pro sports history. What the hell does he do that is good for this team? Constantly put out the wrong lines whether home or away? Do absolutely nothing to motivate the players? Hold no one accountable? Take 3/4ths of a season to make basic line changes that any other coach would have made after 5 games?

I'm not going to lie, I am losing all hope and interest as well. After hearing him speak I truly regret buying tickets to barclays preseason game. I am on my last let with this team and to have Capuano back is just salt to the wound. We all knew Snow was going nowhere as depressing as that is but to bring back Cap is absolutely insane.
This offseason is the end for me, if nothing happens I am done.
If anyone wants the 2 tickets to the barclays game PM me.
