There really was no other choice, Martin was a slam dunk for the award.

I can't remember but did Martin get any minutes with Tavares on the top line this season? I think Matt Martin still needs to improve on his game but I could see him on JT's wing one day.

I couldn't find a better place for this, hut I was hoping for the story on Matt Martin from the perspective of islanders fans...

Background, history, scouting report, projection for the future, overall impression, opinions, the whole thing. Anything you guys can share about this player, I would appreciate, thanks.

I think he has potential to become around a 15 goal scorer if he keeps honing his offensive skills. Right now he is a great 3rd/4th line grinder who can not only destroy people with checks but also isn't offensively inept.

He's a great story, he was a walk on for the Sarnia Sting, drafted as an overager I believe. He was also Stamkos' linemate in Sarnia IIRC, similar to what Downie was before he was traded to Colorado. We love him on Long Island, he gives 100% every shift and hits anything in sight, but cleanly. He is not a goon or dirty player, he'll drop the gloves with anyone and is our 'enforcer' even though his fighting skill is weak despite his NFL linebacker frame. Unfortunately for the other 29 teams in the league, he is here to stay. He brings an element on our team that no one else brings, his value to us is much more than any other team because of this. He chips in offense and he will top out as a good third liner who can chip in 20-30 points, I hope he can wear a letter one day too. While watching you Yotes' in the playoffs I can sure tell you he'd be a nice addition, his size and toughness would be much of a help while battling LA.

Camper might be his biggest fan, he'd give you want you're looking for

But just something quick, he made the Sting through tryouts and would be Stamkos's bodyguard. He worked real hard to improve his game and in his last junior year he had a 30 goal season. From there he played in Bridgeport until a midseason callup to bring size to the team and he got 2 assists in his first game but only had 5 games or so in his first pro season but has been pretty much full time since that season.

He is a middleweight, and when it comes to fighting he is a gamer but not great. He has had some good fights on his resume.

As far as hitting, he is one of the best. He can lay guys out but really just finishes every single check, no surprise he beat the record at all. I think his hits per game home and away had a .2 difference so there is no bias.

He is such a hard worker and someone you are always searching for, for your team. Every team wants a Matt Martin and once you have him you do not give him up.

Make that 35, his last yr in jr. Kevin.

Watching the playoffs this yr. Kev. With all the checking, like hockey is played by the way, the Isles have a key piece of the puzzle when its their turn to take a run at the cup

Thanks for all of the info guys. Very helpful. I hate being in the dark on a statistical leader who plays an effective game.

I'm hoping to see more out of him offensively next year. He doesn't have stone hands but you know he's limited by his own lack of skills and linemates. I'm hoping for a 12 goal campaign and a similiar amount of assists.

If we ever got a legit second line center and bumped Frans down to the 3rd line, and stuck MM on there....his name would be widely known.
