Washington is the only lower seed that I could see doing a bit of damage. I think the Devils will get past Florida, but they aren't the underdog there.

I think the better question here is, are horses that are dark colored the least capable historically? because i sense this is a racist generelisation.

Washington, if they make the playoffs. Hopefully I'm wrong, because they are likely going to face the Rangers in the first round.

Going by the amount of respect they get on these boards, I'm going with the Rangers.

The term began as horse racing parlance. A dark horse is a race horse that is not known to gamblers and thus is difficult to place betting odds on.
Nowhere does it say anything about race.

1st place can't be darkhorse. It's not allowed.

Ottawa. They are coming together, slowly but surely in a continuous progression. They should surprise a lot of people.

Philly or NJ... if "dark horse" means lower than a 4 seed.

I would have said Buffalo, but since Myers and Erhoff are out they probably won't make it.
So since Ottawa is the only team in the playoffs not really expected to be there they are by default the darkhorse.

Capitals? Alex Ovechkin has never really had a bad playoffs, so you can never count them out.

Devils, I'm wondering if Brodeur has one more great playoffs left in him....
Edit: If you include Philly, they have a chance too... especially if Bryz doesn't flop
