I know the schedule hasn't officially been created yet, but I know the playoffs start on the 11th.
Is it remotely safe to say that the Canucks will play on the 12th (Thursday) and thus Saturday for CBC broadcast on the 14th? Or has it been a random assortment of dates in years past?
Any answers or insight would be appreciated, thanks!
If it does, more than likely Game 2 is on Friday then? Or will the CBC factor kick in?
What CBC factor do you mean?
The saturday thing?
It's round 1. CBC will have 4 series. Most likely 2 East and 2 West. If it's 3 East and 1 West, then on Saturday they'll have a double header starting at 1pm PST most likely.
The Canucks played game 5 against Boston on a Friday last year.
Historically it appears the Canucks usually kick off the playoffs on opening night.
The radio was saying they expected it to start on wednesday. Something to do with a Coldplay concert.
Coldplay is the only event other than Canucks booked into Rogers Arena in April with concerts on the 20th and 21st. CBC will also have the Ottawa series. Likely CBC will want Ottawa and Vancouver playing on alternate nights.
Working around the Coldplay concert, this means Game 5 would either have to be on Thu 19 or Sun 22.
The 19th would mean that the Canucks opponent's arena would have to be available on the 15th and 17th with games #1 and #2 being played on Wed 11 & Friday 13th. This would not give much flexibility in the scheduling.
A more likely scenario is Game 5 being played on Sun 22, likely meaning Thu 12/Sat 14 for Game #1 and 2 & Tue 17/Thu 19 for Game 3 & 4. The Games 3 & 4 dates could easily be adjusted by a day depending on arena availability.
I have tickets to game 7, but am also in Las Vegas from the 20th-23rd (morning flight on the 23rd). Hoping that game 7 wouldn't happen on the 20th, 21st, or 22nd...would be very surprised if it did.

I told ya so. I was right all along!
I've heard from a few people who are in the know that they expect it to start on the 11th. it also depends on who they play, but most likely the Wednesday.
Regardless of whether or not Game 1 is on Wednesday or Thursday, I'd think that CBC would want Game 2 scheduled for Saturday. The Canucks will be the big ticket for the evening timeslot on CBC and they'll want to maximize their ratings. Even better if they can somehow double-bill Ottawa at 4:00PM and Vancouver at 7:00PM.

The thing is, CBC learned last year that they get massive ratings before and after the game whether or not they have lead ins. Saturday will get high ratings regardless. I think the Canucks may want an extra days rest, especially with the injuries they have. I think they go Wednesday-Friday.
Edit: that gives an afternoon game on Sunday which NBC likes, especially if it's a Dallas, San Jose or LA. Phoenix, not so much.

They would probably want the Ottawa game to go into overtime so they can preempt the start of the Vancouver game. The CBC knows best about what Canadians should want to watch.

Jobing.com (Phoenix) and HP pavilion (San Jose) are both open all of April except for San Jose's arena having an event on the 21st.
@ Van Game 1 - 11th
@ Van Game 2 - 13th
@ Pho/SJ Game 3 - 15th
@ Pho/SJ Game 4 - 17th
@ Van Game 5 - 19th
@ Pho/SJ Game 6 - 22nd
@ Van Game 7 - 24th
Book it.
Unless of course we play LA. Then i have no freakin clue cuz Staples centre is booked practically every night but they can go from a concert/b-ball to hockey and vice versa in like 3 hours.....
Season isn't over, and the playoff matchups aren't close to be set yet. It all depends on who plays who because then they'll have to figure out the broadcasting stuff.
