if federov was interested i would give him an asstistant coach job like olie.
If we're going to keep getting Russian players, might as well. I always thought that made sense, especially for the newer ones due to the language barrier. Larionov would be the best, but he isn't available.
This must be what it feels like the day you realize you've been married to the wrong person for 15 years.
We want a divorce, George. All the best to you in the future. Let's not do anything that will hurt the kids.
I really want to believe Ted told GMGM you don't make any moves and better hope you make the playoffs. It looked sort of that way until he signed the college kid a few weeks ago. I think we all know, Ted is going to spin the injury excuse again. When Ted first bought the team, I was like great a rich guy willing to spend, but then his lack of hockey really showed. GMGM should be lucky he is in D.C. He would have been devoured by the Toronto, Montreal, and other hockey media. Hard to believe it has been 15 years.
There is the option to extend 30min+ beyond the scheduled time. I just set it quickly on my phone. Typically its fine on CI. Its NBC and NHLNet that I need to take more care.
Once you've done that, can you come over to my house and adjust the clock on my VCR, it keeps flashing 12:00.
GMGM has said Hunter is coming back next season. He's also said he won't change the roster around too much.
I'm certain GMGM believes this season is an anomaly and this team will magically get better next year.
And as I have been saying, I highly doubt Ted has the balls to fire him.
As the teams new "ambassador", right after Slapshot is caught on the jumbotron calling Langway a fat **** and Langway is fired within days. The organization will say that the fan base was no longer listening to Rod.
Just root for SJ to miss the playoffs, and McClellan to get canned. I could buy into Feds an as an assistant under a good coach like that.
HC- McClelllan (forwards, PP)
AC- Fedorov (forwards, Russians)
AC- Experienced defense/PK guy
GC- Kolzig, unless Phoenix moves and gets a new staff, in which case, go after Burke hard.
And why, if McClellan were canned, would that be dreaming? 2 head coaches that were fired this season have already been re-hired.
Considering realistic hypotheticals =/= dreaming.
Honestly, if GMGM is still around, I can totally see him retaining Hunter in the face of the availability of McClellan or Tippet. ****ing unbelievable and unforgivable, but realistic.
Didn't he say awhile ago that Hunter would be staying as coach after the season?
If he said that, it's got to be quoted somewhere. I'm sure someone can dig it up.
I don't remember any such proclamation. And while I know we should take any Mike Wise article with a grain of salt, he did say that no one in the organization he talked to believed Hunter would be back next season.

It was reported here that he said it on a radio interview, I think right around the trade deadline. I take the Wise article as more compelling in this case, personally. But not by much.
“Has he expressed what he’s going to do one way or the other?” Andy Pollin asked McPhee of his coach.
“We haven’t talked about it at all,” the GM answered.
“But you’re under the assumption that he would want to continue coaching next year?” Pollin asked.
“Yes,” McPhee said.
“Would you want him back next year?” Steve Czaban asked.
“Yes,” McPhee answered immediately.
“I haven’t said he’s on a one-year deal,” he later said. “Other people have. Nobody’s ever known what our coach’s deals were, because I’ve always been changing them mid-stream. But I like what Dale does because he keeps people accountable. If you want to play, you better play hard, you better play honest, and if you’re out of the lineup, it’s gonna be hard to get back in.
“And I think a great example was with Jeff Schultz. Dale didn’t like the way he was playing when he got here, he sat him out for 20 games, then he put him in, and he’s playing as well as he’s ever played. I think this is the best he’s ever played.”
A few things to consider:
1- He didn't say that Dale would be back next year.
2- He doesn't even know if Dale would want to come back next year.
3- The situation has changed since then, as evidenced by the Schultz comments.
Gmgm thinks mobility and puck moving is premium. Less so offense. See poti who was brought in as a d 1st d and alzner.
Poti wasn't brought in to be a primarily D-first defender, it's just what his role became. He was brought in to help offensively but didn't really deliver and Mike Green happened to break out instead.
I have more concerns about McLellan than Tippett, although some of it I'm not quite sure is due more to ****** personnel/depth or not.

The Caps haven't been a terribly hard-working team under Hunter, so I don't know where that's coming from. And if he were so big on accountability, then Wideman, Carlson, and others would have been benched/scratched by now.
