Henrik Zetterberg is about 10 km mislocated
Actually some of the names on the map around there are mislocated. Technically he's born in Njurundabommen, not Njurunda. But it's the same thing really

Good job!
Unfortunately I'm relying on on nhl.com to provide me this data and its not always correct.
NHL.com seems to think some Swedish players were born in a place called Vasteras while others were born in a place called Vesteras. That was an annoying bug to work out...
Also I'm kind of shocked to see only 1 NHL player form Maine, and 0 from Vermont.
Not too shocking, I grew up in Maine and the hockey options were limited. There aren't too many indoor rinks and the weather outside was just too volatile to get good ice consistently. I remember playing at the Y almost every day after school one year and then almost never the next, because it rained and snowed all the time.
I wrote some code to get the data (player names, city/province/state/country of birth) from NHL.com, then some more code to do geolocation on all of the city/state/province/country names and then some more code to automatically create a webpage with all of that data.
Awesome job!
I can barely spell my name using basic hline 10, 20

Place is called Västerås. The pronunciation is closer tå Vesteras than Vastaras, that's probably why.

Feels like NHL.com have mixed up birthplace and location of team back home for some players. Lidstrom for instance was born in Avesta, Dalarna and not Vasteras(which he played for).
Not a single player from St. Petersburg!? That's a bit of a shocker!
Yes that is kind of strange. It is also interesting to see that the expansion into "new" markets in the US has not paid of in players (yet?).
I was also a bit surprised that the players from Finland followed the demographic for Finland in general so well, i.e. most players from the South. I think so as Sweden has an unproportional high number of players from the North (with only about 1/9 of the population).
Meh at least taylor hall's dad was born in Australia. That means Taylor is eligible to play for Australia in the divvy 2 worlds! If good enough to gain a place on the team that is..

The population of the whole state of Maine is also about half of the population of the Minneapolis metro area, and a lot of that is spread out among small cities/towns.
