This organisation baffles me
1. Carlyle most likely wants to see where he is and how well he can play in a system similar to Eakins.
2. Zigomanis would have to pass through waivers twice and most likely would get picked up.
3. Zigomanis is leading the Marlies in points is more important than Colborne since they haven't clinched their divison yet.
4. Colborne needs a confidence boost. He might get that playing with the Thrill
5. Helps the tank

Zigomanis is being paid $300K to be a veteran on the Marlies, that's good enough for him.

If Zigomanis was good enough to play in the NHL he would be regular somewhere by now and Burke wouldn't have picked up Steckel. He is a good AHL player, but like guys like Dupuis, Keith Aucoin, Jason Jaffrey, etc. he just isn't good enough for regular NHL duty. He signed a big deal to play with the Marlies because he's there to provide veteran leadership and to be a teacher to the kids. Let him stay there; he does a good job and gets paid well.

Plus have you seen him skate? Guys who skate as poorly as he does at his size aren't effective in the NHL for long.

Where did I say that Leafs should slot him for a 3rd line player forever? It was more about rewarding him. Monetarily.

I don't want him on Leafs in future, but guy does need to be rewarded. If you don't think Leafs do this, they already called up Scrivens last week, just for a day, so that he could earn NHL salary for that day.

Funny Colborne is shocked he was recalled before Kadri. "Naz has been playing unreal."

@Mirtle
Joe Colborne said he thought Kadri was deserving of the call-up: "Naz has been playing unreal." He was surprised that the Leafs chose him.
Classy comments by Colborne, something I do appreciate.

That being said, I dont like it when a player feels he doesnt deserve to be up. That can lead to hesitation and some fear. I dont want prospects to come up like that. Hopefully he doesnt feel this way

Guess you didn't see the earlier replies to your comment huh? Ziggy is paid MUCH higher than the average AHLer. He's been great for the Marlies and is being paid accordingly. He's making 4x more than Colborne, Kadri, etc...

From Capgeek

Kadri's AHL Salary: $67,500
Joe Colborne's AHL Salary: $65,000
Ben Scrivens' AHL Salary: $85,000
Mike Zigomanis' AHL Salary: $300,000

Get it now?

That's why he wasn't called up. Go look at the standings, might make sense, a couple wins here and we're screwed!!

The Nazem Kadri Show (the second one was his third game in three nights, right after he was sent down from emergency recall. He dominated the first half of that game):

By those clips, maybe we should be recalling Dupuis instead

Well at least you know he's a team player, who also knows he's been struggling lately.

You'd be hardpressed to find someone that would complain about getting paid that much to play hockey.

Not to mention, for an organization that is priding itself on being built with class and character, Zigo is a piss-poor example of both of those. He's Tlusty 2.0. After that little display, and public exposure, I don't get how anyone thinks he's coming up here.

It's not all about Colborne learning something, it's about Carlyle learning what type of player to expect in the training camp.

This is it exactly. Carlyle needs to find the winning lines and players and with all the injuries happening it gives Randy a chance to see what is already has at his disposal and what he doesn't like. Think of it as an early training camp.

Colborne has been pretty good in the 10 games he has in the NHL. 10-1-4-5 +2

Kadri is a hell of a player and I look forward to his addition to the club next year. However, Joe Colborne will also get his chance at showing Carlyle what he is made of.

Let the games begin.

Wow. Ahl'ers get paid roughly. Minus rynnas (1.9mill) and jeff finger (1 mill something) and zigo. Why is jeff finger getting paid in the millions while the rest don't even get paid 100k?

Jeff Finger was on a one-way contract and therefore he gets paid his NHL salary. The rest of them get paid an AHL salary due to their two-way contracts.

When Kadri plays in the NHL he gets $900K roughly, without the addition of his bonuses.
