In the longer run, they will be ok.

Petrino on the other hand, I hope gets worse treatment than Mike Price did for his scandal.
They weren't really big time until Petrino.

They were a powerhouse from 85-89 and had some very good years under Houston Nutt.

The University and the players are better off without a low-character person like Petrino in their lives.

85-89 is over 20 years ago (if we're using that long ago a criteria for them being big time then Southern Methodist is big time as well). Houston Nutt also never even got Arkansas to a SEC championship game or BCS bowl.

My main point is that Petrino has made Arkansas into the competitive football program it is known as today and that hiring a big name to replace him without missing a beat is no given like some seem to think, especially this late in the offseason.

Valid point regarding the inconsistency of the program's level of visibility. The basketball program was clearly ahead during the down time from the 80's.

But with the roles reversed right now, and not likely to change anytime soon, this job will be fairly attractive.

I would suggest though that the school forget about going for the homerun hire right now & save that for next year.

Ark. St. already grabbed Guz Malzhan (Empire). He was my favourite hire of the off-season (interested in Jim Mora, too). The Red Wolves are a team on the rise. should be interesting coach pursuit and really bad timing by D-bag.

Yeah. I wouldn't call them "big time" either. Their last two seasons have been pretty big time, but there's a long history of inconsistency in the years before that.
At this point, I'd bank on a return to inconsistency before I'd expect the replication of the last few seasons.

They went to two SEC titles games under Nutt in 02 and 06.

This isn't about morality -- it's about giving jobs to your good time gal and lying to your bosses. That'll get you canned just about anywhere.
I'm sure an unearthed adulterous and unprofessional sexual relationship could be considered grounds for termination.

Even if he wasn't, he was going to have to resign anyways. And he's going to get not-hired because of it as well. How many self-respecting programs will want this guy around kids?

Guess Bobby Petrino found work as the Flyers' new offensive coordinator tonight.
