Gilroy has offensive talent but just lacks direction with it. As opposed to a guy like Kyle Turris, who as we speak is more reliable defensively as well.
I would like to see Gilroy on the ice as much as possible, for the other team.
Joe Corvo is much better. *gulp* that was hard to say.

Bruins have sat Corvo out of games recently. Interesting discussion on the Team yesterday evening. York was talking about how he played with a guy who had no confidence to take the puck out of his own end and would always dish it off to him. Then the conversation turned to Corvo and Priessing, and how Corvo was the same. Even if Priessing had to guys covering him and was going to be a bodycheck sandwich Corvo would dish it to him - just no confidence. In the playoff run Corvo was pretty well useless by the end of it.
I don't see that from Gilroy. Corvo has some nice skills, like his point shot, but can be an odd duck. He sure didn't like the nickname "Uh. Oh. Corvo".
Carkner on the road is tough because he couldn't play against Seguin because he won't be able to anything but watch Seguin skate circles around him, it would be big time situational play for Big Country.
But I'd start Carkner just to balance out the toughness, Boston is going to try and scare us and intimidate us. Hopefully Carks pops Lucic in the nose and slows him down for a game or two, but Lucic seems to play better angry so it could work against us.
Hopefully Boychuck is out because Corvo playing against Spezza and Michalek will be fun to watch.

You know, this is actually a really interesting point. Maybe we can start Carkner for our home games, when we have the huge advantage of last line changes, and can minimize the chances we put Carkner out there vs Seguin/Marchand/etc...
Start Gilroy on the road, Carkner at home. Much in the same way you platoon certain players based on the pitcher: play one guy vs right handers, another vs lefties.
I actually like this idea. Minimize the chance Carkner gets massively exploited by speed on home ice, and have Gilroy, who matches up pretty equally against any line, play on the road.
Shades of Picard with Gilroy, when he's playing in the offensive zone, he's okay...but when he's in the defensive zone it's inevitably a cluster****. Really look forward to him being out and someone else being in - even if it's Boroweicki.
Whichever one MacLean doesn't choose. That way I can piss and moan about it.
The road-home difference is a good observation.
I think you start with Gilroy on the road, regardless of who we play. After two games, if he sucks balls and you feel like making a change at home, put the Carkbus in.

It's the playoffs! ... That thing we used to play against Toronto and that thing we played against Anaheim. As long as the referees put on their customary blindfolds and shove their whistles up their *****, Carkner can do whatever he wants to stop whomever he chooses.
If he wants to crack Seguin over the head with a folding steel chair, the WWE quality of playoff refereeing will allow that to happen.
