Matt Donovan coming up from BPT for #Isles. Couple vets banged up and Capuano may want to see what the kid can do before next season.

YES!!! Leave it to Capuano to find our long awaited Top 4 DMAN!!
It's not really complicated, probably two roster spots next season will be filled by either DeHaan, Donovan, Ness or Reese.
The only one who hasn't been tested in the NHL so far is Donovan. This was to be expected IMO, they want to start trying to figure out which guys are most apt to be in these two spots.
it's important Donovan gets an idea about the speed and strength of NHL players. This is the right move. I was hoping deHaan would get 4-5 games as well, but too late for that.
I always felt Donovan's skating was his strength. Surprised to hear that his skating isn't strong in the AHL.
Question for those who've seen him play live in the AHL, is it his skating or strength on the puck?
I watched Kadri play in the minors a few times over the past two years. He was a solid skater in junior but would get tossed around like a rag doll in his rookie AHL season. He's been better this year, still far too weak on his skates to be an effective pro - despite his talent.
Donovan and deHaan aren't that big/strong yet, they're still young, don't have their man-strength yet. I think they'll need another year or two, depending on how fast they mature physically and learn the game at the pro level. But hopefully one (or both) can surprise us next season, like Hamonic did.
lol. Is it rock bottom for a franchise when their fans are pissed about their NHL club taking talent away from their AHL affiliate?
Not at all. I have no problem with this move but I can see why people may not like it. It's good for young players to get some sort of playoff experience even if it's only in the AHL.

i have seen all of donovan's home games...his skating is outstanding..i don't get where people are knocking that part of his game...its his strength...he does need to get stronger..but his skating is good

I have never seen him play, looking forward to it. As long as he can play with BST in the playoffs.
Given that we have only 3 current NHL defenseman signed for next year, Unless we resign Reese, I get the uneasy feeling that we may see 2 rookies in our Def 7 next year choosing two from the #1 pick, DeHaan, Donovan and/or Ness . Maybe one UFA and one of Staios/Eaton/Jurcina to round out our 7. So I hope they are ready.
