Also I don't like what I heard on SportsRise this morning about Brown spending another year in AAA.
I do... the kid just doesnt seem ready for the majors yet. Give him the year and if he is tearing up later next year we can bring him up to the big leagues and have him make a difference instead of riding the pine

Just let him play LF for the entire year. He was starting to come around offensively when we traded for Pence. Minors are not gonna benefit him at all. Just let the freaking kid play.

I dont understand how you can say the minors won't benefit him??
You know, i'm not completely against this 5 year deal, depending on what's going on.
A) Can we get reyes for less
Doubt it. Reyes is younger and puts up better numbers. He may not be as good as Jimmy defensively, but he's still pretty good.

I don't know if the Phils want to put up that kinda cash for an oft injured, non prototypical lead-off hitter who hasn't really had a good year at the plate since '08. Defense and this past playoff series notwithstanding. Plus I'd figure the Phils would be more interested in keeping Madson and Hamels before Jimmy. They don't want to pass the luxury tax and with Paychecks due to Lee and Howard increasing they'll get up there.

Jimmy has said he wants 4 years w/ a player option if not 5. So unless he backs off this (he very well could, what he said yesterday may just be a higher end starting point to negotiations) I don't see the Phils interested for that long.

He might be good for that long with his glove. Problem is he's not exactly the type of hitter they're going to want in the future considering how bad the bats were collectively against the Cards, even though Jimmy was hot. He's not a good OBP guy and he doesn't usually work the count. Unless he backs out of some of his demands I refer you to the first part of my response to "A)."
I really wish Rollins wasn't on the forefront of the signing media. I'd rather have Hamels first and foremost to be signed.
I think RAJ is a smart enough guy to realize Cole Hamels extension should be their main priority. He should be the guy 5 years from that will be the ace of the staff when Doc and Lee either arent here/arent as dominant.

I think he will be fine offensively, he was hitting decently and getting on base pretty well. Before he got sent down when Pence came here he was hitting around .300 in July. It's his defense that worries me, he along with Pence seem so awkward out there.
I'm pretty sure it was spending the year. Obviously if someone gets hurt/slumps or he rips it up it's a different story, but it sounds like Mayberry is LF and Brown is in AAA until something happens.

If it's affordable I'd do it. He's still pretty good on defense but he is not an elite short stop anymore.

Maybe I'm just getting antsy to see this guy in an everyday role. Haha.
I don't blame Jimmy for wanting a 5 year deal, and I'm pretty sure someone will be dumb enough to give it to him, most likely the Giants. I'd rather it not be the Phils, I would max out at 3, maybe with a club option for a 4th. But if he gets a 5 year offer, then thanks for the memories Jimmy.
And I don't want any part of Reyes, he's a selfish player who has had groin/hammy problems every year. Someone will give him 7 years at 16-18 per and be disappointed with the results.
I'm thinking it will be Freddy Galvis or a FA fill-in until Galvis is deemed ready.

I'd be totally fine with JRoll on a five year deal if the price was reasonable. I was reading he wants $10 mil a season for five years. That's nuts. I can't see anyone giving him that much for that long. He's not really old right now, but he's on the downswing for sure. I'd give him $5 mil for five years though, but that's the most I'd do, which he likely would not want.
I wasnt for tanking against the Braves, but I would have to believe that if they didnt go on 8 game losing streak and say went 3-5, then thy would have tanked.

I wonder if Jimmy truly thinks he can/will get 5 years at $10 million a year. He might be playing the game and setting his bench mark in the clouds knowing that teams will need to talk him down from at least that amount.
