Since coming over to the Canucks Zack Kassian has yet to find a permanent line. He has been going on both the second and fourth lines. He has been playing well on the second line lately, but it looks like tonight they are moving him back down to the fourth line to make room for Higgins on the second line.
So my question is which line does Zack Kassian fit on the best?
4th line down the stretch. Give that line more minutes and manage our high end players time down the stretch. We need to get Malhotra going I'm not worried about the top two lines like everyone else, start to crank them up in April right before the playoffs and they'll be fine. In the playoffs there will be an injury somewhere so it's kind of a moot point predicting right now where Kassian goes at that juncture
Kassian's effective on nearly any line so far, so it doesn't matter to me. Kassian should be a 3rd line role (but will be a 4th line role because of our depth) for the playoffs. Our biggest thing to work on is getting the Sedins going again, Kassian is the least of our worries of where he should play.
If Kassian plays the first line it is almost certain that Burrows and Kesler are on the same line. Won't happen for a while though. Burrows has shown to be a great fit with the twins. If they can find a serviceable place for Kassian in the lineup (still may be the second line) then there is no need for this switch unless it is short term to try and spark the twins.
Kassian should be given more time on the 2nd line. Of course he's going to have bad shifts, periods/games, this is the time to have them. But I like his size and his playmaking ability and he should be given mroe than the standard AV 2-3 game trial.
Probably 4th line with some 1st line minutes (after PK). Or if the first line keeps struggling, let him play on the 1st for a bit and have a PBH/R checking line or something (Pahlsson/Burrows/Hansen or Raymond). Odds are he'll just be a ladder player similar to Higgins except all 4 lines.
He does fit all the description of what everyone thought the 1st line needed before Burrows ran away with that spot. Putting him there for a full game or 2 could jump start that line.
