What are people's thoughts on 1st + Gagner for Getzlaf + Sbisa?
Would definitely consider.
That's the type of package I'd be looking for. Call it overpayment, but it should be a hefty price to get a no.1 pick, you're not gifting out Halloween candy here.
If the Oilers take Yakupov, the competition for forward spots is going to start getting pretty intense.
Assuming Gagner gets re-signed (likely), Horcoff isn't bought out in an amnesty clause as part of the new CBA (likely), Smyth is re-signed (about 50/50), and no players are traded or signed, the following players will have contracts and guaranteed lineup spots next season: (not listing actual lines, just a depth chart)
LW
Hall
Smyth
Eager
C
RNH
Gagner
Horcoff
Belanger
RW
Yakupov
Hemsky
Eberle
Jones
That leaves 2 spots for Hartikainen, Lander, and Paajarvi.
Starting a year from now, players are going to have to really compete to make the jump from the AHL to the big squad. No more roster spots handed out to unproven/unready players.
I am using my wizardry and predicting something around Dougie Hamilton for the Oilers' 1st overall.
Ugh, the Hall-Seguin back and forth still gives me a headache, if Yakupov went to Boston and became a big time goal scorer with Seguin ... we'd never hear the end of it ... ever. I like Hamilton but it would have to be like Lucic coming back with him for me to consider that.

The only way I would accept Yakupov being traded to the Bruins would be if Lucic, Horton, Hamilton, Rask and a 1st were coming back (I'm assuming Seguin would be unavailable).
I don't have any particular player in mind, but I'd welcome the idea of Gagner + Hemsky for a 2C who can provide some size up the middle. I know Pens fans have made it clear they have no interest in trading Staal, but basically that's the kind of trade I'm thinking of. Maybe there's another player who could be had for what I'm offering.
Also on Malone, I could see the Canucks trading for him.
A deal centered around:
Schneider + Ballard
for
Malone +
Something like that at the draft makes sense to me. Gives them extra secondary scoring and an added physical presence, while dumping the Ballard contract.
EDIT TO ADD: On Maroon, I swear he had some sort of attitude question or incident which made Philly trade him.
Half of me says that + would need to be something very significant and the other half says that it wouldn't because it erases Ballard's supposed horrible contract.
I kinda think that Tampa's 1st rounder would find it's way into this proposal... who knows... Vancouver's might too.
Pierre Mcquir just said n the radio a college free agent Dman - Schultz? - is looking to leave the Ducks organization and sign with Vancouver or Edmonton on July 1 - apparently he's NHL ready and the most sought after player not in the NHL.
1. Sign Schultz
2. Draft Yakupov
3. Trade MSP to TB for Detroit's #1 pick and draft Subban.
A starting goalie, top 4 D and #1 winger all in a week.
One of Subban, Dansk or Vaselveski should be kicking around at 32. I don't think goaltending is a huge issue but I wouldn't be surprised if we addressed our long term goaltending needs there.
On the defence and number 2 center front, I think edmonton isnt too far off. I would suspect we could add a gritty and big number 2 center at next years draft. Either that or get one back for Gagner.
Really Tambo just needs to work on making trades for defencemen. Schultz would be huge for our blueline.
I hate all of this talk of trading the pick, or trading down. Let's just take him and put together the rest of the team later. You don't pass up on a talent like this.
for Ryan Johansen + 2nd overall pick, and we pick Ryan Murray ?
IF the Oilers don't want Yakupov based on the interviews (if they don't think he would be a good fit in the room kind of issues), I would absolutely do this.
If you told me yesterday that I could trade Gagner and a 2nd for Johansen, I would be all over it. I understand the opportunity cost of it, but if based on the interviews they determine Ryan Murray to be the best player all things considered, it would be a HUGE steal.
Of course, I expect Yakupov's interviews to go well and for him to lead our team in scoring in a few years.
