The whole "skirt" comment towards Bylsma is the reason why organizations like the You Can Play project have to exist today. It's people like him that are so immature, that they have to resort to comments like that to make their point.
I agree. Hockey people get more upset about calling someone a "punk", and totally are okay with blatant, childish, sexist comments like using "skirt" as a derogatory description. It's not 1950 anymore, but the NHL refuses to believe this.
As for Shero's comments, he sounded like a butthurt clown by bringing up his son's concussion.
Hey Ray, your kid had a concussion, not leukemia. I will bet money Milbury suffered more concussion in his first three years in the NHL than Crosby and Shero in their combined lives.
I get it...Ray's protecting his players through the media. And yes, Milbury is a jerk most of the time and was an incompetant GM.
But this is what you get when you play like Crosby away from the puck.
Well if we are lucky Milbury's concussions will force him off the air and into a mental state that so many others are being affected by sooner rather than later, considering he thinks they are so funny and all.

This seems like quite a reach to me. I don't see what a skirt comment has to do with "You Can Play" at all.
One thing a lot of people fail to realize -- Old School hockey players will always have a sense of bitterness towards the current generation of players because they were paid much less, didn't have as much contractual freedom, and played in a way more dangerous era. They played without helmets, without much padding, without protection rules, and without scruples.
For decades, they were brought up in an "eye for an eye" culture on the ice. I think what ticks Milbury and Cherry off is that the players have very little to fear on the ice. In fact, you see players embellishing boarding calls, almost purposely launching themselves into the boards just to get a minor and maybe a suspension.
I think it's an obvious situation where he's one of those "well I had it tougher in my day" kinda people who make up the majority of every generation as new generations enter their lives.

its sexist and disrespectful towards women.
He didnt say You Can Play is about this, he said comments and mindsets like these make programs along the lines of You Can Play necessary.

oh ok and the best way to get someone back is to complain to the media.
Milbury now running his mouth about Pat Lafontaine (yet another person with a far greater legacy in hockey than Milbury) in defense of his buddy Charles Wang (another grade-A dumbass):
"Pat ran for the hills. Pat ran for cover," said Milbury, now an NHL analyst for NBC. "It was cowardly, and it was terrible. And if Charles was [ticked], I wouldn't blame him in the least." LaFontaine declined to respond to Milbury's comments.
Lafontaine ran for the hills and so did everyone else with a 2 tic tacs in their head.
I wonder how he feels about DP's contract and how he plays 10 games a year since he signed it??? The guy will sit out games for a rough waxing but Mad Mike doesn't say anything about him.

What a joke.
I dont think he was making fun of concussions. I think he was making fun of Crosby and how his concussion issues are constantly brought up ad nauseum for almost 15 months.

I mean who would take on cherished boy Crosby other than Milbury and Cherry. These guys have balls and thank God we have them to cut through uncle Gary's NHL bull.

Under whose choice?
It's not like they were told to not wear helmets. They were too proud and/or stupid. So, now because of their failures in the past, their bitterness is showing.
When your grandpa tells you about walking to school, uphill, both ways, barefoot, in the snow...do you accept it as truth and feel bad that you have it better, or roll your eyes after hearing the same story, which has an additional, outrageous spin with each telling?
Old people complain. It's nothing new. I can't wait until I'm old enough to be the senile old guy who cuts in line at the grocery store and people just let me go because they figure I don't know any better.
I don't see it. It's Milbury's antagonistic way of telling him to "Man Up". Is it sexist when women tell someone to "Man Up"? I'm not getting deep into this with you, but from where I sit this reactionary sentiment of yours seems farfetched.
We all cry about the people covering the game or even playing the game not having any kind of enthusiasm or spunk when doing interviews or anything in front of a camera that is. Now that we have some characters that make these broadcasts interesting and entertaining we hate them.... I don't get it sometimes.
Also Mike Milbury does know the game of hockey. He has been in it for a lonnggg time. He has run a team(poorly) but still has a wealth of hockey knowledge. I do however disagree with most he says, because he is a moron
Im not asking for the players to act like in the NFL or NBA, but some characters help market the game. We need some of them to help the sport grow and bring in curious people.
In the case of Roenick, his whining during the lockout irritated, mainly because he came across as a self entitled jackass. That said, he actually seems to have calmed down. Sure, he is passionate, perhaps overly so, but honest. One comment won't damn him but people sometimes have a hard time forgetting. McGuire, I have never understood the hate for, albeit he can been a little odd.
Milbury... he is an idiot. I like passionate people however unlike Roenick, McGuire, Ferraro, whose opinion we can actually respect. Milbury goes off with comments he has no business making. What credibility does he have to mock other GMs or players given the dubious title he holds? The Sedin shots are just one example and Schneider is sadly correct. Milbury would have traded both because the man as neither the patience nor attention span to outlast a fruit fly.
Give me passionate announcers any day, just make them creditable people.

I'm not excusing it. I'm explaining it.
Milbury's been around for a looooooooong time. Even as a coach of the Bruins and Isles he pulled stuff like this.
He's always been the guy who answers a question like "how do you think the other team played tonight" with "screw the other team. They suck and we're better than them"
I think in this particular episode, he's echoing sentiments a lot of hockey fans were saying watching the game live. I know i said it in the privacy of my living room.
I was saying stuff like "Man, Bylsma's looking like a ***** here" and "Good for Schenn" and "What happened to the kindler gentler Crosby"
But I hate the Pens. I'm guessing after 1991 and Ulf Gate, Milbury hates them too.
mike milbury is the biggest ****ing idiot in hockey, he is a disgrace to the game, the worst gm in all of sports history and worst of all he thinks he knows what he is talking about
