I don't think so. We have holzer waiting with a D that is already in a logjam. We also have the possibility of schultz signing with us. So we may have 3 prospects needing room. I think blacker will get 1 more year in the ahl. Would be great to just bring them all up by trading schenn, gunnarsson, komisarek.
Yeah they're going to need to clear the deck of defensemen soon to make room for those promotions. I really hope we get Schultz, and if we end up drafting Murray, we might be looking at Murray, Gardiner, Schultz, Blacker. Big, smart, mobile. Then you don't mind Schenn and Gunnarsson rounding out the future corps. Get rid of Liles, Phaneuf, Komisarek, Franson on a need to basis.

I don't think we can get rid of Phaneuf. I think he still needs time, giving him the captaincy was premature.
Say what you want about Phaneuf but he does bring that edge that neither Gardiner, Schultz, Blacker, Murray etc will bring. He drives players like Stamkos out of their mind.

His next contract should be a flip of cap hit between him and Kessel, Kessel making 6.5 and Phaneuf making 5.
Phaneuf is a solid dman, and a good #2/3 but shouldn't be our captain, or playing 25 mins a night. More suited for about 22-23.
It'd be cool if we signed Suter and ran with:
Gardiner-Suter
Gunnar-Phaneuf
That'd be an awesome top 4, any team would have a hard time complaining about.
Crazy how he didn't score his first goal till January 24th.
He had so many good chances and I also think he was a bit hesitant to shoot the puck before. This move that he used to score on the Sabres is like his patented move. He can really pull it off any time he wants.
By the time those four are hitting their primes, Dion's contract will be running out. 2015 I believe?

His best is the little slow-up then spin-o-rama that he tried earlier in the year. Still needs to improve defensively but the good part is that most of the bad parts are more defensive gaffes that can be taught with good positioning and experience. As opposed to taking too many risks offensively, so he won't really need to tone down that part of his game.
