I'd rather have Goose than have him solidifying the Wings right now. That meant giving up a 1st. Typical overpayment at the deadline, but, Goose is doing what is expected ... PK, faceoffs, solid bottom 6 center.
If Wilson bought in all season and did the things away from the puck offensively, on the forecheck, and defensively that the staff keep mentioning ... well, he'd be playing.
There is way more to this than what you are reading. The quotes from both Trotz and Wilson are what they are saying to the media. Just wish we could be enlightened to the " real reason " . We probably won't ever get the answer, but if you are satisfied with what you are hearing, I can't argue that
Did you not read the Sat Chic/Nash GDT? The fan-base sux cause we have huge numbers of Hawks and RW fans that live here or travel here cause tix are cheap and take up a couple sections of the arena. FL having a 10pg GDT, just reinforces the point - our fan-base sux. We're not worthy of a team......
Oh, wait, how many sell-outs this year???????
Roll the Liarpolds tonight, boys!
I like your sarcasm as it is another example of someone typing things that was never put in print on the Chi/Nash forum. No one said the fan base sucked. It is far from that. It is however disappointing when you go to a game in Nashville and thier is almost as much red/white or red/black in the stands and streets at a game.

Every knock I've ever heard on Wilson involves the few inches between his ears. He's got the talent, but, is he willing/able to accept coaching and criticism then work to fix the deficiencies? He's been outperformed by Halischuk at even strength.

What is Gaustad not bringing that you thought he would? He's a faceoff specialist with size that he uses defensively.

So Gaustad has been worth a 1st round pick to you or are you just arguing to argue like you usually do?
Nice article. I think he has been a great addition however it does not matter how good you are at winning faceoffs if your team cannot hold possession and turn the puck over.
faceoffs is all thats impressed me with gaustad. his defense is nothing to give up a first over.. and even then, I feel his defense is completely overrated.
on offense, he is pretty much worthless. but he also makes good decisions with the puck, which is a plus. as I said detroit can have him..
a package of collin wilson + 1st round pick (+?) would have been a good package come draft time

The Preds had to get Gaustad to replace Smithson in the faceoffs. The only way they could get him was for an over priced deal. The Preds needed someone that was good w/ the faceoffs since not many on the Preds team are.

They got him for faceoffs and size. He has done both well. We will need him against bigger teams in the playoffs. None of are other centers have the size to move people and get the STL and DET of the world off of the puck in the corners.
For what he brings in faceoff's and his size. Sure is worth it to me. Plus past the first 15 picks...the draft isn't all that deep this year.
no offense... but you are going off what you hear.. its a 1st round pick.
hornqvist, erat, rinne, weber, ect all are after the 1st round and I'm sure none were a factor if the draft was "deep" or not. that 1st was our most valuable asset out of draft picks / prospects.
however, I do applaud poile's "go for it" attitude.. but feel he was pressured into making a move just to make a move

A late 1st round pick(which we gave away) and 2nd round pick are about the same no matter how you slice it. Paying that premium to keep Gaustad off the Wings, and get rid of Smithson was well worth it to me.
Plus we draft extremely well no matter where we pick.
Poile can't win no matter what moves he does (or doesn't) make. We get a big center who can win faceoffs, break up the opposing cycle, and kill off penalties and the deadline price is too much. If we hadn't picked him up, the calls that we didn't do enough would echo across every valley. I'd be a lot happier with the deal if we could have pulled it off for less than a first, but, that's the cost at the deadline. He fills a niche.
A late first rounder this year isn't much with how this draft is projected to turn out.
