Are you worried about MLSE paying someone if they get demoted?

Why worry about a one-way?

Good point, if he pans out, the more guys we have in the bottom 6 making < $1M the more money we have to spend elsewhere.

Always good to have another player to choose from. Komarov reminds be of a grittier Crabb. He is a little small though. I thought we were supposed to get bigger. I mean, I know he has sandpaper, but he was getting knocked down a lot against the Canadians. Now I know guys like Darcy Tucker got knocked down a lot too. Lets hope he is one of those energizer bunny types that just keep on getting up.

For me, it`s not so much getting bigger but getting players who play with passion and grit.

I will take a 5`11 player like Tucker over a 6`4 one who`s afraid to take or give a hit.

Dont get to excited we will be luck if hes even better the Rickard Wallin was. All i can see is 4th line with minimal skills and toughness.

That's a lot more than Wallin ever showed.

This. Size is irrelevant if you won't use it - komarov seems like a guy who could be useful so i'll be happy to have him over here

Since it's confirmed he's coming over, might as well change the title to reflect that.

Komarov may better be suited for NA hockey, but Euro imports haven't panned out that well lately. Monster, Brunstrom, MZA, Frogren...the list goes on. They all brought the hype, but all have failed to live up to it.

Not sure if he can even steal a roster spot. If he does it will be because of his physical intensity.

Still I think he's Marlie bound, and though 25 will still need to adjust to the NA game.

Lombardi brought us an additional asset in Franson.

Lombardi also has far higher upside than Konopka. Lombardi came back from career threatening post-concussion syndrome last season than suffers a bad shoulder injury and everybody has decided he's completely useless. How about we let him play next season before rushing to judgement on him.

And as far as his cap hit. We had the cap room last season when we acquired him with nowhere else to spend it so who cares if he makes too much. If it's an issue to making moves this off-season he can always be traded/waived.

Not sure how anybody could dislike this signing. At best we are adding a cheap, physical bottom 6 agitator who will hopefully cause Connolly, Armstrong or Lombardi to be waived and demoted. At worst he will suck and end up with the Marlies or the Royals. This is no risk, decent potential reward.

Really excited to see Koma play.

Brown-Steckel-Koma. ?

Not a fan of Steckel on that line, but we do need someone to win faceoffs.

dont know much about the guy, but if he can play on the 3rd line and is signed for around $1M, that is a great signing. We have way too much money allocated to the bottom 6. This allows Burke to trade Lombardi/Armstrong and use the extra money to put some top end talent on our 1st our 2nd lines.

I think general our bottom six will be revamped tbh. I wouldn't be surprised though if Leo plays in the AHL for a while to adjust to the NA style game.

Where was it confirmed that he is actually signed? What are the terms? I thought it was all but done but not until WC were over.

That is true, i could see us (trying to at least) get rid of armstrong and or lombardi.. I just think regardless of how revamped it may be that crabb should be a part of it (he deserves atleast 1 more year)

I think "Almost signed" would be more appropriate.

I had no idea.

Leo was selected by Toronto Maple Leafs round 6 #180 overall 2006 NHL Entry Draft

A trade for Lombardi or Armstong would look something like this

Leafs have acquired D Cody Fransen and C Matthew Lombardi from NASH for D Brett Lebda and F Robert Slaney.

So Lombardi or Armstrong plus something of value for NOTHING.

Not sure if it was mentioned yet, but there was a brief write-up of Komarov in the latest Hockey News where he was called the hero of the KHL finals. Apparently he had three goals in the series but was also constantly drawing penalties that led to power play goals for his team.

Glad we finally got him over, seems like trying to sign him was becoming an annual tradition. And with seven years of pro experience, it's not like he's some green rookie who can be expected to make plenty of stupid mistakes next year. His stupid mistakes will probably have more to do with learning what penalties not to take.

Maybe in the juniors but I haven't seen him like that in the NHL. I hope he doesn't because he's to skilled to be getting involved in that part of the game.
