Talent trumps all.

Burke will hopefully address the size issue in trade, and/or signings.

Good to see Komorov coming over. The talk about him for some time has been very intriguing.

So? Gardiner isn't tough, but his skill trumps all of it.

He's like an elite forward out there in the offensive zone.

We might not be able to lure Schultz because the Oilers/another team would probably just give him an NHL spot.

We won't be able to do that.

Our #1 PP is going to be amazing.

Kessel Lupul
Kadri
Gardiner Phaneuf.

Kadri just needs to get better at draws. I hope he still has a chance @ center now that Carlyle is coach.

Looks like more offensive flair to me. I always heard he was a pest on the ice, an agitator, or a rat, as Burkey would call him.

Kind of reminds me of a Finnish Darcy Tucker. In the vid at least he shows great vision, not afraid to get his nose dirty, and seems to have a knack for playmaking.

Leafs do not need another smallish euro player. They need size upfront. Lots of guys to choose from UFA list. Winnick, Campbell, Paille, Prust and Jay McClement. All Ontario players which would fill the significant hole in the leafs lineup, size grit truculence and playing in front of family. And of course 3rd line checkers that Carlyle loves.

He's not a smallish euro player. He doesn't have the size but he doesn't play small at all.

Look at the video posted above. He's got the skills to be a top 9 player that can chip in points and be a good third line player at the worst.

It's a guy we have drafted...why not give him a chance on a cheap ELC instead of overpaying for 3rd liners like we have to Armstrong etc.

HELSINKI, Finland — If Leo Komarov has his way, he'll be wearing a Toronto Maple Leafs sweater in the fall.

The 25-year-old Finnish forward finally feels ready to make the jump to the NHL and hopes a deal can be worked out to make it happen once he finishes playing for the host country at the IIHF World Hockey Championship.

"I hope so -- as fast as possible," said Komarov. "If they need me and they give me a good contract then I will go over there."

--Is he not only eligible to a ELC at this point which limits how "good" of a contract they can give him?

This is Burke's comment:

Quote:
"You've seen him, he's not big," said Burke, who is part of USA Hockey's management team for the world championship. "But he's dynamic, explosive, obnoxious and skilled. He's a really hard guy to play against.

"He makes things happen out there and we're hopeful at some point that he joins the organization."
Not sure anyone here can provide a counter suggesting Burke isn't high on him.

Yes, he's limited, but can have signing and peformance bonuses just like Cervanka did with Calgary, adding up to 3.7 potential salary.

Seems like a good prospect, would be nice to have..

Also, why are people talking about Schultz? Afaik he hasn't signed here and has not indicated he plans to do so...

I thought the maximum bonus was only for top free agents. He was drafted in the 6th round by the Leafs, wouldn't he get a Frattin like ELC contract?

I don't see the comparison, other than they are both European.

Frankly for me, anything involving amazing and Phanuef is just not happening - I think he is a terrible power play guy who can't hit the net most of the time and does little else.

Absolutely not. Signing Wallin was a means to an end, Gustavsson.

Our PP was top 5 for a long period of time and then it slumped when the entire team slumped and ended up top 10.

I'm not worried about the PP. PK has to improve though. We can't finish 29th in PK and seriously expect to make the playoffs, we don't have that much talent to do that.

We need a top 10 PP and a middle of the pack PK.

Not positive.

Cervenka was previously linked to the Toronto Maple Leafs and Phoenix Coyotes, but didnít make a commitment to the NHL until Wednesday, when he signed a one-year, entry-level contract worth the maximum allowed, $3.775-million, which is split between base salary and bonuses.
Cervenka got 925k max, and bonuses adding up to 3.775.

Kind of reminds me of a Marchand type guy. It'll be interesting to see what happens if he comes over.

Burke's track record in signing players is horrible. I have no problem in signing Komarov, he can play in the minors. But he doesn't solve leafs lack of size problem that Burke himself has been complaining about.

I wouldn't compare him to Jarkko Ruutu cause Komarov is more talented.

Pest wise he is as good.

Doesn't fight like Ruutu.

Maybe Darcy Tucker is better comparison.

Today at Worlds he pissed off Chara who took stupid penalty in the 3rd when they tried to tie the game.

Lots of pro people want to move him to 1st line to play with Mikko Koivu and Valtteri Filppula cause Leo could create space and havoc there.

We don't have a lack of size problem, we have a lack of grit problem.

The first half of the season all i can recall on here was were super fast and highly skilled

My point is a great signing and kewl to have him here!!

But lets also have some big bangers ala Kyle Beach Tom Wilson Colin Wilson

A good mix

The entire bottom 6 can be replaced aside from Frattin and Brown as far as i am concerned..Plus Mac getting dealt would open up 2 spots in top 6 were size is desperately needed on both lines

Ideal Bottom 6 next year

Frattin/ Colin Wilson or Komorov/ Big Winger XXX
Beach/ Ott/ D'Amigo/Brown
ORR

Top 6

Kessel/XXX/Lupol
XXX/Grabo/XXX Maybe Clowe here and one of Kadri or Kuliman still here need size and grit here and Kuliman did not have it last year

Komarov isn't going to come over to play in the minors. And not every signing will be designed to bring in bigger forwards. You might see two, maybe three signings/trades that will strictly address that.
