I've been reading the summer moves speculation thread a lot and virtually everyone is leaving Roy off of their projected lineups for this year. Is anyone in favor of keeping Roy around and trying to roll three scoring lines with Ennis, Hodgson, and Roy centering each? Regier won't be able to find another proven scoring center like Roy for $4 million without giving up something of significant value. If Roy is traded, it seems more likely that the team would go to a more traditional third line with two scoring lines. Regier would also probably have to go out and find third- and fourth-line centers on the market to replace Roy and Boyes. However, the three scoring lines have worked well in this latest stretch, as it poses matchup problems for opposing teams.
I'm not a huge Roy fan, and I wouldn't be mad at all if he was traded, assuming Regier can fetch good value for him. I feel like this deserves its own thread, as everybody seems to have a strong opinion regarding Roy. He certainly makes sense as the fall-guy for the team's mediocrity (Ruff isn't going anywhere yet). I just wonder if anyone believes that Roy will be with the team next year. Everyone seems to write off a Roy trade as a forgone conclusion.
You know, I wouldn't mind getting another C somehow and putting Roy on LW...he was great there in the 05-06 playoffs. I think his game is a little better suited for scoring winger as well.
I'd prefer the Sabres move him for as much value as they can get over the summer, and deal with the consequences of him no longer being here. Just like we are going to deal with Kassian not being here, or Gaustad not being here. I think Roy is part of the problem (old core) and not part of the future solution to a Stanley Cup.
If he is here, i won't like it, but i will accept him as a Sabre.
I'd rather trade him at the draft/in the offseason.
My feeling is that there is no way we should consider re-signing him. He'll have more trade value at the draft/offseason. No reason to allow him back in the lockerroom...

Something like Roy-Stoll-Gerbe/Kaleta
Left wing is already pretty stacked, though. Vanek, Leino, Gerbe, and Foligno should all be regulars next year, and McCormick and Adam will compete for spots. Vanek could slide over to the right side, but Pominville, Stafford, Kaleta, and Tropp are all there. I'd be intrigued by Roy at left wing, too, but I don't see where he could fit in without other moves.
Only see him being traded if there is good return which there probably wont be. So I think we will see him resigned hopefully for a bargain price as usual.
Personally I wouldn't mind having Roy on our team so we have 3 good/decent centers on this team, he doesn't look like hes a cancer,or isn't trying or w/e you want to speculate to me. A couple weeks ago he had multiple Carruba collisions on top of generating offense.
Hey you guys remember our comeback last year WITHOUT Roy in the lineup? Oh wait we did it this year too WITH him in the lineup
Roy is where Connolly was for me entering the final season of Timmah's last two contracts with the Sabres.
I just hope that roy doesn't get an extension around the trade deadline next season and I would like it if the Sabres traded him for something before losing him for nothing as a UFA in 2013.

Roy haters
His time is up, he isn't the number 1 center that's going to lead us to the promise land, hes had his chance. And if you think we can resign him for a bargain price it's not happening, he'll likely want 5.5-6 million considering what grabovski just got

and you aren't going to get a #1 center for Roy anyways so thats a moot point

So we have 2 centers as capable as Roy, we could try and get a bigger center at the same level as Roy or add to Roy and upgrade if someone comes available
id trade him and our first with a d prospet to try to move into the top 5.
Roy,Brennan,13 for a top 5 pick
We have two capable centers and hopefully we could draft a franchise center. Go out into free agency and get a 3rd line center and let mccormick have the 4 line role.
Hodgson/ennis
Ennis/hodgson
Stoll (Fa)
Mccormick
x Adam/Franchise center drafted this year
I would be ok with that center line up and then we have the pick from nashville to address anything else.

I doubt too many teams picking in the top 5 value Roy on an expiring contract that much.
We can't win with players like Roy. The last 6 years should have been some indication of that. He needs to be replaced with somebody who can play a full season and THEN be ready to compete in the playoffs. It doesn't matter how, but Roy just needs to be gone. Peace, homeboy.
Does anyone see Roy getting around what Carter garnered from the Blue Jackets? Minus the size, Contract length* and pass/shoot differences i would think they are pretty comparable.

The problem is Roy has 1 year left on a deal with a cap hit of 4M, but a salary of 5.5M. Some lower cap teams would likely find this a negative. I would love to move Roy for a larger center with "more jam", but those players are not easily obtained.
If Roy goes, we better be getting an NHL center back. Futures won't cut it.
Ever since the co-caps fiasco, we have been in dire need of centers. Going a full season without having to shoehorn wingers into the center is important.
We need more depth down the middle. Ideally, we'd have enough depth that we could line a center or two at wing (remember when we had Briere, Drury, Roy, Connolly, and Gaustad? happened to be our best seasons).
Plus, the way the roster looks now, we should be looking at rolling 3 scoring lines because we have the wingers to do it. Which leaves a 4th line to be a checking and/or energy line. But to roll 3 scoring lines, you need to have three centers who can run a scoring line. We currently have 3 such centers.
