Deal is overly complicated. I think Columbus would take Carey Price + MTL 1st (Galchenyuk? Forsberg?) for Nash + Yakupov.

Forsberg might be the guy Columbus wants anyway.

Heh. Right. If Price was all Columbus wanted, only a fool would not drive him to the airport if it got Nash and Yakupov back.

stupid and nonsensical trade for habs. keep the top 3 pick and just add him to the three cornerstones in subban, price and pacioretty - all 24 or younger

Price would have to go back, and I find it very hard to believe he would not take a 1 year contract and hit FA to cash in big the next year.

Way more than Montreal would want to give. Way too little for what Columbus would be willing to receive.

5,000 posters: Nash overrated, mane. I wouldn't trade my dead dog for him.

Heck we have little Desharnais who has put up that many points and he's only being Payed 850 thou a season on the team next to the Jackets.
He's done it once? Twice? Well that's as good as 8 or 9 times!

Rick Nash is overpayed, but not horribly so.

(rough estimate, for what they were calling for Nash @ the trade deadline)

Subban, Paccioretti, Beaulieu, Tinordi, 2012 1st

realistically it will never happen, but, you would be looking at a deal like:

Price, Pacioretty, Subban and your 1st.

for

Nash, 1st overall, Mason

Cost breakdown:

Nash = Pac + Subban + 1st
1st overall = Price + salary Dump Mason

So, is it safe to say, MTL will not be landing Nash AND the 1st overall?

I wouldnt take that if i was Columbus. ...not even close to value.

1st = Price if you want to be generous to MTL

2nd/3rd overall for Nash ...no way Columbus does that.

Mtl may just win the draft lotto, and then a deal would be easier.

Price > Nash

Cbj 1st > MON 1st

Montreal might need to throw in something else of middling value. Maybe a 2nd.

How is Price = 1st overall??? Are you a real person?

What if Yakupov busts like Daigle, Stefan, Wickenheiser then the Habs just traded their franchise goalie for a BUST?

A known commodity is worth more than a potential BUST.

Price is worth more than Nash: he's younger, not paid $7.8 million, and plays at a more crucial position

Any known commodity is not necessarily worth more than a 'potential bust'. If you're looking to acquire the first overall pick, it's because you believe in what that player will become - so you can take that out of the equation.

As for salary. Price is very affordable this year, on his first RFA contract, but so was Nash. As rumor has it, Price will be looking for at least 5 million and probably around 6 million this offseason. Likewise you can take that out of the equation.

Nonetheless I can understand wanting to hold onto a known franchise goalie, as fragile as goalies can be.

No one should want both Nash and Yakupov they both are first line RW so you would have to play one of them on the second line. It would be better to take Nash and a center as your first pick.

Nobody said it would be a smart trade for Montreal, but if you want to get the first overall from Columbus you're going to need to have a pretty solid tender to offer up.
