Why are those our only options? The problem with the Isles is that they're limiting themselves to bargain basement prospects and geezers.
Spend the money on someone who can actually help win games! I'm not saying that we should be trying to acquire big money guys or empty the system. Go after guys like Versteeg (traded for a 2nd and a 3rd,) Liles (traded for a second rounder,) or Troy Brouwer (traded for a late first.) We have plenty of prospect depth, now let's use it (and some picks) to actually put together a competitive team!
The Isles problem is that they aren't really rebuilding. That word implies that they are building something. They are keeping costs as low as possible, and running out the clock to 2015.
