Any word on Gagne?

As of a couple of weeks ago, he was supposedly skating regularly. Anyone heard anything since?

That thread had some erroneous info, as it turns out. Gagne has been skating but has NOT been skating with the team.

IS that info current because I have heard that he has red shirted with the team at least once over the past week or so. Either way if he is skating that is a start. A healthy Gagne this year anyways can still be somewhat effective for us.

I hope he returns sooner rather than later.

Here's a word on Gagne:

RETIRE.

There you go then. I had heard that Gagme had spent a practice with the team in a redshirt. Maybe the confusion stems from semantics. Did he wear a red jersey and practice one timers with some of the team? It sounds like he did. Was he doing so at or during a full team practice? Maybe not and that could be where the confusion comes from.

What the **** are you talking about? This guy was lighting it up the first week of the season. He is a tremendous skater. I don't know what happened to him, why he slowed down offensively before he got injured, but he has great potential and can be an awesome kick in the pants for the Kings as we go forward for the stretch run.

I don't understand your post at all.

Let's see... Gagne has a HISTORY of concussion problems. Deadmarsh retired, LaFontaine retired, Keith Primeau retired, Lindros retired and chances are Chris Pronger is going to retire before they were supposed to because post-concussion syndrome is not a joke. Everyday is a challenge for a lot of these guys to live normal lives. You think Gagne's priority is going to be to pot a a goal or 2 in the last few games or hopefully have a chance at a normal life?

Parse has also had serious injury problems. The poor guy is also putting his body and future at risk. You think he hasn't thought about what his life is going to be like with a bum hip (or two) when he's in his 40's and onward.

I think it's best for these guys to just hang them up. I'm not trying to be a dick, I'm thinking about their health. Kings hockey be damned if it was me in that position.

Gagne skated today, Saturday and:

he's meeting with the doctor tomorrow, but hasn't skated with the team yet, my guess is that he is 2-3 weeks away, in best case scenario:

Through 5 games in the season the Kings led the NHL in goals. Everyone went down hill from there. Crazy for me to say but I believe a lot of it had to do with Doughty coming back. The stats would lend itself to that argument.

It's nuts that the idea is even up for debate but it happens every year he comes back from injury. When Drew comes back the rest of the offense caters to him like they are afraid of hurting his feelings by not forcing the puck to him.

I don't even think it's that, Doughty's just not been that good. Granted he's not awful, but for $7 mil a season you need to play like you deserve it.

Doughty doesn't fit the system. He needs to be able to pinch and skate with the puck. The current system has him standing on the blue line firing slap shots and his slap shot isn't good enough to score goals regularly. If this Kings team had an Al MacInnis he would be scoring a ton of goals.

Nobody fits the system.

How has he worked out so far? What do you see as his future with the kings? Thanks.

Hard to say, he's been injured most of the season. He was great in the first half of the 34 games he did play but quite bad the second half.

So who knows what we'll get when/if he returns.

The Mayor (Mayors Manor) did an interview with him a few days ago. It's copied on the Simon Gagne website

http://www.simongagne.com/

From that , this is some of Gags thoughts:

Quote:
First question, of course, was howís he doing?

ďNot bad, itís getting there,Ē began Gagne. ďStill not 100%, but there are no setbacks right now. Itís improving and thatís a good sign. Sometimes with these injuries you see guys having a setback, they need to take it easy. Sometimes they push themselves and (the symptoms return). So, right now, every time Iím pushing itís OK. So, itís a good sign.Ē

Even just being back on the ice has to be considered a major step at this point. In early January it was believed Gagne would most likely be out for the season. Then, things changed a month later, when he began skating.

He said he feels good and is that he continue to skate hard, no setbacks is good

He just has his 32nd birthday 29 Feb...
He seems so much older because he's been in the league so long. Istill remember him as a rookie and how easily he skated, effortless...and that shot...
Nice kid then, class act still.

Hope he has a clear and healthy path back, he seems very encouraged.

Gagne in the playoffs is French for money the last two seasons. Hopefully for us he returns and gives us that again. Having him with Richards and Carter on a line would be nice.

I wonder if Gagne comes back this year that probably means the end of Dwight King....Nolan is a 4th liner and can stay there but King proved he plays better as a top 6 or 9 forward.

I wonder if next year the Kings move King to the LW spot taken now by Penner. King-Loktionov-Lewis?

If King is banished but Richardson keeps his roster spot, I'll question if mumbles has taken one to many kicks to the head from a cow.

He's been a perfect fit for his infirmary bed. Don't have much to complain about when he's actually playing with us, either.
