In your opinion, which of the current roster players should remain with the club moving forward?

Should and will are two totally different questions.

If you are asking who should go... you already know what the majority of posters are going to say.

Fot the sake of the clarity, let's base our opinions on a player's merit as opposed to his contract status.

Hopefully, Burke will find a way to ship out most of the players that don't deserve to be here despite their salaries. He's found a way to do it in the past.

I think we should keep the bolded players and try to build our team around them. The players in italics are ones I think we should keep around for at least another season to see if their play is improved at all. Everyone else can go.

Colby Armstrong
Carter Ashton
Tyler Bozak
Mike Brown
Joe Colborne
Tim Connolly
Joey Crabb
Cody Franson
Matt Frattin
Jake Gardiner
Mikhail Grabovski
Carl Gunnarsson
Jonas Gustavsson
Nazem Kadri
Phil Kessel
Mike Komisarek
Nikolai Kulemin
John-Michael Liles
Matthew Lombardi
Joffrey Lupul
Clarke MacArthur
Dion Phaneuf
Jay Rosehill
Luke Schenn
David Steckel

I know this won't happen, but it would be nice.

this is what i hope next year's line combo would be based on current play:

lupul grabovski kessel

kulemin bozak kadri

connolly steckel crabb/ frattin

brown lombardi rosehill

gunnarson phaneuf

gardiner schenn

liles franson

reimer

scrivens/ vet goalie

healthy scratches: holzer/ komisarek and frattin/ crabb

trade armstrong, mac, ideally komi but i'm almost sure no ones gonna take him.

i doubt ashton will be ready for the show next year barring an amazing training camp, he looks too raw and overwhelmed at times this season. however he shows flashes of what hes capable of so another year in the ahl should help him a lot. same with colbourne, i don't think he makes the show next year based on what hes done so far.

our top 6 will have incredible offensive potential, especially with kulemin getting fed sick passes from kadri and bozak. pairing kadri and bozak makes sense, since bozak likes to work along the boards and take faceoffs, and kadri can play a center game without having to be depended on to take faceoffs. Snakebitten kulemin should regain his form simply due to the amount of opportunities he'll have and kule can also provide a big body Along the boards and digging out pucks. lupul grabo kessel line is self explanatory, first line players playing on the first line.

the connolly steckel and crabb line was the best shutdown line i've seen thus far. so barring an unexpected blossoming of ashton or colbourne i'd expect this line to be the line carlyle relies on to grind.

brown lombo and rosehill, goon line for the lulz and a strong forecheck by brown and rosehill. lombo is there in case of a random rush.

our d line is self explanatory, best ds playing with best pairings seen this year. they should be more defensively reliable given that they buy into carlyles system.

of course, this is based off of players we currently have, i have no idea what burke plans to do in the offseason

Interesting results so far. I'm surprised at the responses regarding Phaneuf and MacArthur in particular.

Just get rid of the L A C K line and I'll be happy, I know it will be tough to do, and it might not even happen.

I mostly agree.

Schenn needs to be a cornerstone piece of this franchise. He's exactly what a team needs in post-season hockey. He will win us games.

I also want to hold on to Mac. I just can't see us getting much value in a trade. He's a 20G scorer and those are always welcome on my team. He's a pretty hard worker too and isn't soft like Poni or Antro.

Finally, if we could land significant value for Phaneuf, I'd be down for trading him. I don't necessarily think we should be actively shopping him but if the right deal is there, I'd trade him.

Baffling that poll suggests more want to move Phaneuf over Schenn.

Connolly, Lombardi and MacArthur are the three I'd move.

No problem resigning Crabb and Rosehill for depth (likely be on the Marlies mainly).

I'm fine with keeping Armstrong and Komisarek for nother season.

Blind hate. Him not being the top minute eating defenseman is a worthy debate, him not being one of the top 4 dmen is entirely different.

How can Lupul have more votes than Kessel? Remove Kessel and Lupul's contributions take a nosedive.

I don't know exact numbers but I'm fairly certain Kessel slowed down in Lupul's absence.

LOL at the 6 people who voted for Gustavsson. There's no way he's coming back. And I doubt very much he wants to.

How surprising, Gardiner is the leading vote getter

In all seriousness, I'm picking a new favorite team if old burkie ships him out.

I think Gus will end up in Detroit. Perfect fit for him and way better than Conklin.

I doubt it as well, but I voted for him because I like him and I wouldn't mind seeing him in a back-up role.

Dump the stiffs and I'm sure everyone knows who they are.

If it was me, Kadri, Gardiner, Frattin, Ashton, Colborne would all have spots unless they had horrible camps. If the Leafs are going to get serious about developing their prospects, they need to play those ones.

They should look to trade Phaneuf.

I think Kessel is expendable but it might be easier to add a center for him than to try and find two forwards for the first line (easier one than two). Kessel seemed really disinterested at times but the team can't afford to have two players with attitude problems.

If there's any way to dump the 6.5 mill. contract, they would be wise to do it.

If Burke isn't serious about improving the team and lets his ego influence his decision-making, the Leafs will have another season of missed playoffs and little sign of future improvement.

Go

Schenn - He may lead the NHL with hits, but he is slow, and gives away too many goals. He is valuable, trade him for a decent starter goalie.

Connolly/ Armstrong/ Lombardi/ Liles - All overpaid. Nuff said.

Lupul - He is injured too much to justify, he had a good season making him a valuable trade asset.

Gustavsson - He can't stop a puck.

Go or Stay

Phaneuf - Either way, he isn't a team leader, take the C away.

Burke - He gets one more year.

Keep

Kessel - Overall solid player, he just needs more than a half-ass center.

Kadri/ Colborne/ Gardiner - Although young and valuable, they will lead this team with-in a few years time.

Reimer - He would make a decent back-up goalie.

MacArthur - He gets the job done.

Any other players I didn't mention, I haven't decided upon yet.

i'd like to see wasted roster spots moved to open up spots for young players/prospects.

Lombardi, Connolly, Komisarek and Armstrong should be the first shipped out in my opinion.

The only reason to hang onto LACK is hope a couple of them rebound so we can ship them off for draft picks at next seasons self imposed deadline. A couple Marlies should be able to earn a spot by then.
