A thread for every player: AJ Jenks

AJ Jenks

(total 2011-12 AHL stats; rankings among Checkers forwards)

GP: 52
G: 4 (14th)
A: 5 (15th)
P: 9 (13th)
PIM: 21 (13th)

Age: 21 (June 27, 1990)
Height: 6'2" (1.88m)
Weight: 205 lb (93kg)

Contract status: RFA in 2013
Current contract: 3yr/$875k ($65k in the AHL)
Acquired: Traded from Florida along with Evgenii Dadonov in exchange for Jonathan Matsumoto and Mattias Lindstrom

This is the first time I've ever given any thought to Jenks being in the organization. I was wondering why he was even included in the Dadonov trade, till I saw he played 4 years in Plymouth. And of course, we're their alumni employment agency, so I guess that makes sense.

Anybody see this guy in Charlotte? Is there an upside to having him? He went scoreless in 25 games in San Antonio prior to the trade, and spent time in the ECHL, so his chances of even making an impact in Charlotte seem pretty low.

Everything everyone seemed to be saying when we got him was simply to watch him over the next couple of years. Doesn't likely have an NHL future, but has the physical capabilities to eventually make a difference if we develop him right.

That being said, right now he means next to nothing to us.

Might eventually be a 4th liner... but certainly not next season. Maybe if we get a new coach in Charlotte he (and other underachieving prospect forwards) might get a new lease on life.

Um... Well... He was good for the USA WJC team when they won gold a couple years ago. And his last name and the word "jinx" are homophones.

He was developing very nicely. I think 2 or 3 years of the right training he could make the 4th line. He is also a nice kid in person. Meet him and some others at one of the Canes watch parties in Charlotte.
