Chris Neil gets back-to-back penalties on clean hits (Video in OP)
Both called interference; it was pretty bizarre.
The one on Staal was borderline, but that kinda stuff happens every game. The hit on Ruutu, as Neil was exiting the box, occurred while the puck was still on Ruutu's stick.
I can see the hit on staal being a penalty. But the one on ruutu was completely legal. Also thought the foligno one was too.
But what upsets me more is each hit Bryan Allen is there after the hit causing trouble. Throwing cross checks, shots to the face and so on. Only got penalized the second time. Should have been the first and third time as well.
The hit on Staal I can see being interference. The second hit was a joke though. It was a beauty hit and absolutely NOTHING wrong with it. I think the refs were a little pissed that Neil showed them up by levelling another Cane as soon as he got out of the box.
Interesting that on the Staal hit the ref 2 feet away didnt have a problem with it though. Called by the ref on the red line...half an ice surface away.

Canes fan saying pretty much what's been said thus far. The Staal hit could go either way, but there was nothing wrong with the Ruutu one.
The Tlusty/Foligno hit was a knee-on-knee though.
I thought so too, but the Neil on Ruutu being called after the marginal penalty they gave Neil on Staal (by the far-away referee no less) really amplified everything and it was a late 3rd period call when the Sens were down no less.

The Foligno call was late in the 2nd, not the 3rd. And the Senators were given a late powerplay chance in the 3rd, where the Canes had better chances shorthanded than the Senators did on the powerplay.
Officiating was rough, but not the reason for the loss.
The first one was okay since it didn't look like Staal touched the puck. The 2nd one was flat out an embarrassment. The ref who made the call was looking through 2 guys and guessing, simply shameful.
Both of those hits were huge. This thread definitely needs some videos. Those hits were almost thread worthy on their own. Especially since he lays out staal, then comes straight out of the penalty box for the next big hit. The second call was really bad.

I think the Neil goal being called back could have factored into losing. Maybe. (Definitely should have been a goal)

He deliberately elbowed the puck into the net. That's not legal. And even if it should have been a goal, they still had a good period and a half to overcome that call. Are you saying a playoff bound team can't overcome a call like that?
