I've just been thinking about the atmosphere tonight. I am proud of absolutely everybody that went tonight. Just awesome. I live 7 hours from Sunrise way up near the FLA border and wish I could have been there. That was the loudest I've ever heard the BAC. The "Lets Go Panthers" chants were roars from the crowd. When Kopecky scored the whole arena erupted. It was truly remarkable. If this team can just be successful, look at what they can draw in.
If there's a fanbase that deserves a team with 20 OT/SO losses to make the playoffs, it's this one. All the **** we've been through, I don't even care if it's considered a fluke. We deserve a ****ing "fluke" to go our way for a change.

I almost broke my hand when he scored banging on a glass panel in front of me. I was fully prepared to break it if Flash scored on that breakaway.

Beavis and Butthead in the booth didn't even react to the goal, initially. All they did was jinx the **** out of the game.

And to think of all the fans they could have won tonight...
Instead we may sneak in the playoffs or not, we'll play a loosy game against a loosy Canes team on Saturday in front of a pity crowd and won't find momentum !
Tonight was the night, I don't care what everybody says, it was the perfect night to break the curse, Weiss' birthday, in front of this kind of crowd and we basically self-destructed !
We won't make it... If we do, Washington will hand it to us... It won't happen any other way !
Btw, Dinnen for all his love he's been getting needs to get some hate.
I hate his OT strategy. I hate his shootout selections.
I don't like how much he sits Barch, an element we could certainly use. He might have sparked some momentum with a fight after the 3rd goal by Winn.
Why didn't he pull Theo? I don't blame him for the first two goals but the second two were arguably his fault. We needed a swing in momentum. Instead we waited for a lucky, albeit good shot by Kopecky.
Why can't he keep this team playing with the intensity to win for 60 minutes. You'd think that wouldn't be a problem for a guy coaching a team who hasn't been in the playoffs for 12 years.
i don't blame theo tonight but i wouldn't have minded pulling him when it got to 3-3 because we were dead in the water. we're lucky to have gotten a point, to be frank. the way that game's going, it could've ended up 6-3 WIN. and the kopecky goal? please.
i have been one of dineen's few critics here this year and, after that debacle, i'm going say what a lot of other people around the league have probably been saying: the emperor has no clothes; this is not a well-coached team.
We're not going to get a point let alone two against Washington. It's their biggest game of the year, anyone think they're going to let a bunch of rink rats steal a point. Please.
Besides, Dineen will probably sit Barch again. What is it in S FL air that brings out the crochet hooks in otherwise perfectly tough hockey coaches? Jeeez

those points are flukes or loser points.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, we actually suffer from the 3rd point format. in the old nhl format those OTL's would be ties and other teams wouldn't get the extra third point which means we would actually be higher in the standings. Other teams are getting an extra point through a skills competition.

That may not be completely untrue but PDB's coaching and staff were better? Please. I know what you think -- and I disagree. Just hoping for a Panthers-Devils matchup so we can settle this for now.

That's funny because people around the league seem to think he's been one of the best coaches in the NHL this year.
I personally disagree with him being a great coach (although, to be fair, this is his first year), but what you said is definitely not what people around the league are saying.

We're 1-7 in OT so it's not just shootouts.
Any way you put it, getting to 18 losses after regulation is a bit of an anamoly. I don't even remember the last time a playoff team did this. Are we the first ever (assuming we actually get in...)?

I don't even think the two arguably bad goals Theo gave up were even that bad.
I think Dineen is somewhere between good and slightly below average coach. I do think he's the type of guy people like playing for but he's not some savior many were making him out to be.
Not sure what you mean by "Please." I'll assume you agree.

You would think Dineen would try to go with three forwards to mix things up in OT. It's not like we're having ANY success in OT going with 2f2d.

Problem is, people are assuming a lot lately...
Just because we have a 99% chance on some strange website !
We still don't have an X or Y in front of our name in the standings !
And us not making it wouldn't be an anamoly... We haven't done it in 12 years !!!
No .. Groin injury, done for the season. And I'm madder than hell over this game. They sat back and played satisfied after going up 3-0. Games are 60 minutes, not 25 and it cost them the damned division. Theo looked like **** on those last two goals. And the team folded like lawn furniture after they got the first one.
Now ****ing suck it up and get the ******* points in Washington. Play like you DESERVE to be there!
I'm in no mood for silver linings but if there is any at all, it's the fact that IF we make the playoffs, these types of blown lead experiences can teach team toughness. If they use it to learn. If they get pissed enough. If they don't curl up in a ball and cry.
I perfectly got your post... Even if you are talking about an anomaly, you're still speaking as if we're in .
We ain't.
We have 7 losses in our last 8 games... SOL, OTL or L, whatever, that's not the kind of streak you want to ride at the end of the season...
We'll lead this game 1-0 until 5 minutes left in the 3rd because the Caps don't want to win it, then Jason Garrison will score his record-breaking PP goal in his own net, and Versteeg will make a drop-pass right through Theo's five-hole with 10 seconds left...
I can't get any hope for this game... I don't even know if I'll watch it ! Shocked and disgusted...

it could take years to answer this definitively but pete's teams (despite the PP problems) played with structure and integrity every night. the always battled. this team, which, is beyond question better than any pete coached by a wide margin, has been slapped silly and embarrassed pretty much once every week this season. and i mean embarrassed. this loss tonight was puke-inducing but it was symptomatic - after a strong period, the same old mistakes, sloppy play and lack of compete surfaced.
and now, pete, in his first year out of FLA, he's coached a pretty mediocre NJ team to a pretty solid season. pete's a much more articulate guy and probably sharper. dineen understands the game and has had a different type of a job here this year, trying to make guys "like" playing in FL. i expect he'll be better next year.
i think we have the talent on our side to make that series - if we get there - interesting but i also wouldn't be surprised to see more punk*** hockey like tonight and a quick 4-0, 4-1 exit.

some people say that, yeah, but if you listen to the analysis, it doesn't hold water. it's all based on the fact we're in first place in the southeast. if you watch the team play night after night, there's no way you can walk away and think "that's a well coached team". no way. the defensive breakdowns and bad decisions are not just one or two players - they are systemic. the jets announcers tonight called us out early saying were taking unnecessary chances with a 3-0 lead and playing with fire. after it was 3-2 and we were on our heels, they said "you can see why this team is having trouble winning games with this type hockey...". i think there's a lot of lip service being paid. behind closed doors, there's nobody saying this is a well-coached team. do you really believe that? i mean... you watch every game.
i expect dineen to learn from this and hopefully improve next year. he'll have some more weapons as well. but this year, for whatever reason, he's not gotten it done. he's succeeded in being a player's coach who seems to coddle this roster and let them play however they like. on some nights, that's worked for us. generally speaking however, we are not a well coached or good team. i've been saying this since october, when these same mistakes were being made.
I sincerely hope your team can pull out a win and take the division. After all the crap your franchise has been through it would be amazing to see the Panthers not only make the playoffs but raise a Southeast division banner.
