Pavel Bure, Adam Oates, Joe Sakic and Mats Sundin...this year's Hockey Hall of Fame class.
Sakic is the only one who clearly belongs. Bure is borderline. Oates and Sundin were good players with long careers, but they aren't on the same level as Sakic. Of course this really isn't surprising based on the inductions of the passed few years. It's turned into the Hall of Pretty Good hockey players.
Modano is the best/prolific American player to play the game so far.
Sundin is basically the same way.
Sakic deserves to be in 150%. Sundin and Oates are ahead of Bure, but Bure changed the game. Sundin was the forward version of Lidstrom. Consistent as hell, came out for 90% of his games each year, led the Leafs for a billion years (even though they didn't win a Cup), but maybe not as offensively prolific and important as Lidstrom has been...
If Sundin and Modano were Canadian, then yea, I'd agree that they shouldn't be in the HOF.
But they're not. They were pioneers for their countries (I guess?) and were some of the best ever from there. And both did put up HOF type numbers for the most part.
I don't think that Modano should be in the hall. I think fewer Hall of Famers would be better. Restrict it to the players who were truly great.
Feel the exact opposite. Shouldn't be like the Baseball HOF IMO. All four inducted made an impact on the game of hockey, in one way or another. It's not like they're inducting someone like Morrow or Ott. Celebrate the game, don't put unbelievable restrictions around it.

As voting is currently done both would get in even if Canadian. If you want to argue tougher standards that's one thing but as things currently stand both would get in if they were Canadian.
Modano was a top player on one of the league's top 4 teams during the entirety of his prime years. He was never a numbers guy, except for the win column.
The HHOF is a good debate to have as to what the standards should be and the politics involved but let's leave that for when Zubov is snubbed in a few years.
Yeah it seems like they take it to a whole new level though. If Modano and Turco had been franchise players for them I bet they'd still be cornerstones of the team.

Well how long before Feaster closes the door on Iggy and Kipper?
I'd say those two are just as big a part of the Flames as Mo and Turks were in Dallas, and their departure will signify a true "changing of the guard".
I wonder if that change (when/if it ever happens) will lead Calgary back to playoff contention. Hasn't worked out quite so well for us yet.

That Quick deal is cray, cray. 10 years for goalies is not just a no but a hell no. I don't even like players getting that but man that's a terrible deal for LA.
Just like Crosby's deal is insane considering his injury history. Pay the man his money but do it in 4-5 year increments.
