You can work on your defensive skill and not be on the 3rd line.

I'm sure thats a nice way of saying he can't cut it as a top six player in a scoring role lol. I dunno about this whole scoring potential thing

Hes never really been an offensive dynamo at any other level he has played either, I'm highly doubtful of this hidden talent of his.

I never said he would be a scoring dynamo put points totals don't tell the whole story. His MO has always been that he has a ton of talent but a very questionable work ethic think Rene Bourque.

Shame we can't see him get a couple more games. Time will only tell whether he belongs at the NHL at all, and in what capacity.

3 points in 2 games aint bad for someone with "not much skill level".

Firstly, it's two games, samll sample size.

Secondly, he could play 1000 games in the NHL and not get any luckier goals than the 2 he scored yesterday.

I'd say he has a very good chance given his play at the end of the season. Would be a good addition to the bottom six if there is room.

I'm kinda hoping Aliu becomes our Holmstrom/Hartnell, parking his ass in front of the crease and shoveling in those garbage PP goals. Right now there's nobody on the Flames who does that and I'd say it shows in the PP effectiveness. Anyone know if he's been utilized that way in the AHL?

you want him to be a diving, whining, turtling ***** that gets beat up by Matt Stajan?

I would pass on that.

I would rather see Aliu be more like Clutterbuck but bigger.

No but lappierre knows how to get under the other team's skin.

IMO, Aliu is a project. He definitely has upside, but I really think a guy like Ward is exactly what Aliu needs right now. If he could end up being an Clutterbuck/Ott type player, that would be fantastic. But we need to see more than 2 NHL games from him before we can make those comparisons. Often when farm guys are called up they provide great energy in their first few games and then plateau. Still, I am optimistic about Aliu, I am glad he has Ward as his coach.

If Moss could stay healthy, that's in his job description. But Aliu is a tougher physical presence.....and they're both RW....and Moss is a FA, Aliu comes cheaper....hmmmmm?

Flames could be asking if Moss is really a 20 goal man who can stay healthy and/or does Aliu have the potential to step in next season and replace him for less $$.

this ^

Ward has been working hard with Aliu and I am sure he is lobbying hard on his behalf as well.

While I like Moss, Aliu is bigger, stronger, faster, younger, cheaper and has more upside.

I believe that Aliu is already pencilled in to take Moss' spot on the roster.

Offense aside, I prefer Aliu due to his speed.

That is if Aliu is as good as he was for us those last few games. There's a reason he has been kicking around the minors for some time now.

sometimes a player just clicks at a particular moment. If you listen to Aliu speak, before the Heat accepted a loan for him to play there he thought his career could be over, it truly sounds like he thought this was his last chance and he knew he had to change.

It's those moments that can define a player (or person for that matter).

I'm not saying he will be as good as those 2 games, but he did play like that all year in Abbotsford.

This is the perfect way to sum it up. He should be given every opportunity to make the bigs. If he can keep up his end of the season pace, then I think there is a place for him in our lineup. We really need more work ethic, especially someone who will throw opposing players off their game.
