dineen recent decisions

i'm really happy with dinneen this season, but unfortunately have to question some recent decisions which may cause us to miss the playoffs.
1- i think theo has played great, but clemmer has played awsome recently and won us some games. so then why did dineen start theo in back to backs when clemmer played fantastic prior to the back to back.
2- why did they start theo against winnipeg? i believe that clemmer should've started. logically if clemmer didn't do well we have theo in the wings capable of playing the last 2 games if need be. now who do you start against the caps and if necesary for the playoffs who do you start against the canes. to me this mudied the waters a bit. starting theo against winnipeg sort of limits dineens options and also may wind up putting clemmer in a decisive last game scenario. i really feel that the goalie situation has been mishandled by not letting theo recoupe and rest a bit.
3- i really don't understand why barch hasn't played in weeks. he is our physical force and inforcer. he doesn't hurt the team and can help spark it. he also might help with lessening the physicality and liberties of our opponents.

overall i really like dineen and this team. it can be tweeked of course, but i'm a bit unsettled by some recent desicions. i really hope we can overcome some of our recent shortcommings and make the post season. no matter, i welcome dineen and the majority of the team back next season and hopefully things won't be so intense at this stage next season.

I don't agree with you very often, Harv, but I agree with all the above.

also putting jovo out in a 4 on 4 is basically making us have 3 1/2 vs their 4

This isn't about a decision he made, but here's a strategic question for you all:

In the Winnipeg game, in OT, if we had gotten a faceoff in their zone with under 90 seconds left...

Would you have pulled Theo for the extra skater and run a 5-4 powerplay? The way I saw it, there was little to no risk and lots of upside for going after that extra point. Turns out we never got to find out if Dineen would have done it, but I think it would have been a low risk/high reward kind of decision.

No. Hell no. Getting scored on the empty net in OT results in a forfeiture of your single point. As it stands, the Panthers need only make it to overtime of one game to guarantee a playoff birth. There was virtually no upside to pulling the goalie in OT, especially considering how abysmal the panthers are at scoring a man up. Giving away that one point would have put the Panthers in a possibly very deep hole to finish off the year.

Wow I never realized you lose the point if you pull the goalie and lose in OT. Never mind then.

Yes it's true, you'll never see it unless someone HAS to get 2 points and is crazy desperate.

Yep here's the rulebook:

http://www.nhl.com/ice/page.htm?id=26498

Quote:
A team shall be allowed to pull its goalkeeper in favor of an additional skater in the overtime period. However, should that team lose the game during the time in which the goalkeeper has been removed, it would forfeit the automatic point gained in the tie at the end of regulation play, except if the goalkeeper has been removed at the call of a delayed penalty against the other team.

Correct. I could conceivably see it happening in Washington if Buffalo wins its last two and they need the extra point to get in.
