Please help a guy out.

I remember reading either in the NY Post or NYR website, a few short days after Umberger left/signed with Philly, that either Maloney in an interview publicly said some things that were unflattering about Umberger. The tone was even so far as he didn't get along with the other guys.

I don't have the time to search for a link, but I am sure I could get someone here that would be able to confirm these statements?

I dont know if it was in the Paper or not but it came from the Public Forum when they asked about him, hes a clip from another board:

Quote:
Here's one of the more interesting pieces of info from Monday's Q & A forum: someone asked what happened with R.J. Umberger and the non-signing. Now, all night they'd been talking about looking for "Rangers" to build the team with: fast, strong, character guys - talent and heart. They of course said he was "definitely not a Ranger." However, what was interesting was slowly they started to talk a lot about him - how they tried him out in both MSG and Hartford, thought he had a lousy attitude, and that the Hartford guys really didn't like him. Rosen explicitly said that several players in Hartford that he spoke with disliked Umberger. It was interesting to hear, because they didn't just play it off as him not being a fit - they all got real sour looks and took turns jumping in on how they didn't like him at all. Seemed to be a lot of venom.

Also i might at he is averaging a point a game in the AHL. Comming off 2 years or a year where he didnt even play hockey hes only going to get better...might have been a bad move not to sign the kid...bad attitude or not you can change that...and if they couldnt they could have used him a good trade bait.

The problem is I think he never wanted to sign with the Rangers, he wanted to become a UFA and sign with whoever he wanted.

Sorry George, I personally don't remember reading anything specific and damning about Umberger in print. There were several people on this board who went to those meetings, though, and perhaps they could corroborate what has been said.

I think Prucha makes a good point that perhaps Umberger never wanted to be a Ranger. If he doesn't want to be here, then we don't want him.

As for him being used for trade bait, we got a 2nd rounder when he signed in Philly. With all the questions around him, you would not have gotten that much in a trade for him.

I was at the town hall and Renney flat out said the guy was a jerk, his teammates didn't like him and he was NOT the type of person or player they wanted to build with.

When the Pack played the Phantoms early this season, it certainly seemed to bear those rumours out. Alexandre Giroux, hardly the most combatative guy around, picked a fight with R.J. and messed him up pretty good (game was televised but cameras didn't catch what started the fight.

Maloney and JD discussed it during the meet and greet back in September. They referred to the Wolfpack players hating him and I believe some of the Rangers as well.

It is appropriate to give a link when you print someone else's matrerial.
