Who were your favorite players as a kid?

Both on your team and league wide?

Really too many to list, I can't go further because I know I'll just forget several. I was so in love with the game from 1995-lockout that it's ridiculous. I know most of the guys here hate the dreaded "Dead Puck Era" but to me that's my golden age from when i first fell in love with the game and was actively playing.

talking early to mid 80's here:

my team (The Islanders)
Denis Potvin, Mike Bossy, Bryan Trottier, Pat LaFontaine, Brent Sutter & Kelly Hrudey

league Wide
Doug Gilmour (St. Louis)
Denis Savard (Chicago) (at the time probably my favorite player not on the islanders, i thought the spin-o-rama was the best thing since sliced bread!)
Dave Poulin (flyers, even though i hated the team)
Kevin Dineen (right up there with Savard for me)

Been through this a few times. In no particular order: Mark Messier, Cam Neely, Chris Chelios, Patrick Roy (in Montreal), Brendan Shanahan (before he came to Detroit yes). My favorite Wing as a kid was Dino. By the time Shanahan and Chelios came to Detroit I wasn't a kid anymore.

Stevens, Chellios, Samuelsson, C.Lemieux, M.Lemieux, Shannahan, Sakic, Yzerman, Messier, Domi, Kasparaitis, D. Hunter, Alfredsson, Lindros, Hatcher,

least favourite players:

Gretzky (by far my least favoritre player ever. However, D.Sedin is making his run),whatever goon "protected" Gretzky at this time, Kariya, Selanne, Oates, Modano.

Never had "my team". I just watch the game.

When other kids were dreaming about being scorer, Vezina-calliber goalie goalie or ass-kicking enforcer, I always wanted to be an agitator.

Devils: Scott Stevens, Doug Gilmour
Other teams: Sergei Fedorov, Mario Lemieux, Ron Francis

I loved Mario Lemieux until he started whining about "garage hockey," then I couldn't stand him

every kid around my age remembers watching highlights of this game in november of 1991:

every kid remembers going to school the next day and everyone talking about it.

most of us remember this song too:

cliff ronning: "i don't think i've ever seen anyone skate as fast in my life. i don't think pavel himself ever skated that fast again."
