"This Week 27 Last Week 26 Tampa Bay Lightning 38-36-8

Goaltending and defence remain areas of need for the Lightning because they have to be able to provide more support for C Steven Stamkos, the most dangerous goal-scorer in the game, who leads a Lightning forward group that boasted five 20-goal scorers. " http://tsn.ca/fantasy_news/rankings/nhl/

Too bad draft pick not in order of TSN.CA NHL POWER RANKINGS.

With the grim reality of Tampa Bay's playoff chances having set in the past couple of weeks, Lightning GM Steve Yzerman hit the road — to a certain extent.
Quote:
Barring a string of victories during the season's final two weeks, Tampa Bay is likely to end up with a top 10 pick in the draft, which will be held June 22-23 in Pittsburgh.

So Yzerman has been taking in some junior games recently, and likely will get out to see more during the next little while, to get a personal look at the top available prospects.

"I'm trying to get out and see the top 10 kids, more for my own information," Yzerman said. "(Director of scouting) Al (Murray) and the scouts put their list together and decide on who is there. For me, I'm not going to tell them select player A over player B unless there is something dramatically different. That's what we're paying them to do (make the selection). So I'll go out and watch them … trying just to see them so that I'm familiar with these guys."

Forgot to tweet this earlier, but Tampa Bay GM Steve Yzerman was in Breclav today taking in the USA-CZE U18 tilt. #NHLDraft
I quoted a post from a little less than a month ago. Yzerman could have been there to specifically watch Trouba play this morning.

Brady Skjei and Nicholas Kerdiles also played for the US and are 2 potential late 1st rounders.

I'm fine with taking a goalie in the first, but not with our first.

I've never been for picking goalies in the 1st unless its an absolute stud (ala Fluery 03), but if it's with Detroits pick i wouldn't be against it at all.

This.

Better options in the 10 spot. Subban and Vashlevski or however the hell you spell his name(I'm drunk on my phone, no effort to look it up. I'm on cruise control.) will be available at 20 to 25. Plus if Nashville pulls through we have 20th pick and I would rather have Vashlevski.

EDIT: Brian whenever you want to do the beer trade I'm ready

Boltprospects has been updating the London series with Namestnikov, with updates on goalie Jake patterson. I think if he can stay a second round pick then he would be a good pick at that time. It sounds like each game he is putting on a show in net. But that means that someone will probably go for him in the first round.

If we are picking 20 I definatly don't want to pick a goalie, there are a lot of better players available. We can get one of the top 3 goalies in the 2nd round. We have terrible luck drafting goalies so I don't want to waste a 1st on one.

i would really like Reinheart and Subban with the 1st.

With so many picks, if we dont trade our first I have no issue with drafting a goalie 1st round.

No. You just dont draft a goalie in the first round. The risk versus reward for doing that is not worth it ever. Hell even in the second round is pushing it but it becomes understandable for the right player.

We need to be drafting two defensemen with our first round picks. Assuming we dont trade one of them. Use one of the 4 second round picks to pick a goalie if you have to.

"Dumba shoulders the load"

Nice write up on Dumba but wiil he be available at 10?

"Heading into the under-18s, it was pretty obvious Dumba would captain Team Canada. After all, he wore the ‘C’ at the Ivan Hlinka tourney in the summer and his Red Deer coach, Jesse Wallin, was behind the bench this time. Sure enough, Dumba has led with aplomb, tallying three goals and six points through three games to lead all blueliners in scoring. With a marquee game compared to Dion Phaneuf’s and P.K. Subban’s, it’s fair to say Dumba’s routine works on big stages and he loves the international battles against the skilled Euros he doesn’t usually get to see.

“What you take away from it is battling and competing,” he said. “Out-willing them, playing that Canadian style where you go out and work hard every shift. Get gritty, get dirty, don’t be afraid to block shots.”

A linchpin on the Rebels blueline this season, Dumba had to do a lot of heavy lifting when injuries ravaged the back end (and claimed hot-shot goalie Patrik Bartosak) and though he struggled early in his role, the Red Deer star evolved by simplifying and thrived in the second half.

“I learned a lot about myself and the character we had in our room,” Dumba said. “It was great seeing us band together as brothers.”

Part of the elite grouping of Western League defenders who all look like they’ll go in the top half of the first round this summer, Dumba was still coy about just how high he’s projected to be selected.

“I’m not even thinking about that right now,” he said. “I’m still playing hockey.”"

Dumba will not fall to 10th. Most likely he'll get picked up by Anaheim at 6th. There are still a lot of decent defenders available at 10th however. Trouba, Reilly, Ceci, Reinhart, Finn, Maatta in order. Yzerman knows that this Draft can turn the Lightning into a contender with the likes of those defenseman and Subban.

There are a lot of options in the 2nd Round too. Pokka, Thrower, Severson, and many others.

So your saying the lightning will pick Subban with Det 1st? I think we should take BPA hopefully one of the D you mentioned for our 1st pick falls. We can get 1 of the 3 goalies in the 2nd. Taking a goalie in the 1st is a bad idea, unless they have superstar potential which none of the 3 do.

If we take a goalie in the first I would prefer Dansk or Vasilevski. Subban would be a better 2nd round pick

Would prefer this more but the more I think about if Trouba isn't there at 10, we take Rielly, and hope to take Olli Maata with Detroits. Or if Trouba's there take Mike Matheson with Detroits pick... Hoping he falls to one of our second's.

I've heard and read quite a lot of mixed reviews on Subban. If Vasilevski isn't available at Detroit's pick, then I think we would be better off drafting a goalie in the 2nd round. If either Subban or Dansk are still available in the 2nd round, I'd be very happy to get either one there.

I'm not to big on taking Russians in any round, who knows if they'll even come over and if they do they might go back if not happy with their situation.

You must've hated last year's draft

I'm not big on Subban either. I scored on him a lot in Be a Pro Mode in NHL 12. He sucked.

Plus his brother's a piece of trash. I was at the game when his arm looked like it got blown off by an artillery round when Vinny hit him in the leg. Got Vinny tossed out.

NamestnIkov has been in NA for awhile and was already playing in the CHL so I don't mind taking a Russian then.

i don't understand you guys, don't draft russians, don't draft goalies in the 1st round, what the H*ll do you want no risk = no reward. OK some picks will be busts but some will be good you can't tell what will happen, yakupov could be a bust even. I look at it this way we need D so we pick a D first (trouba,Ceci, Reilly etc.) then we need a Goalie so we pick a Goalie (Vasilevski, Dansk).
i'm more excited about the 2nd round, players like Ebert, pearson, dansk/subban, Sissons, Kerdiles will be available.
I really hope we get Pearson, Ebert, + 1Goalie with our 2nd rounders

I just want BPA (+ character) with minimal consideration given to making sure that the draft doesn't become too loaded in any one area. (example: 9 goalies because they were all BPA at the time)

You just said you hope we get a goalie in the 2nd round, so why use a first on one when there could be several good D on the board. I'm sure one of the top 3 with fall to us in the 2nd round.
