I wouldn't be shocked. I'm sure they are kicking themselves for not giving him a contract.

So what's the final numver for the Detroit pick? Super unrealisitic thought, imagine Minny takes their 2nd, Detroit first, and philly 2nd for number 7.

It's sitting at 22 right now I believe. If Washington gets to the conference final, it will be 21.

I don't believe in the no-win scenario!

(this would be more like half a win than a straight up losing)

If its Wash vs Devils and LA vs Phx then it'll be 19, not sure if Devils are forfeiting their pick so even if they don't make it could be 19.

I'll have to look but I don't think it's possible to be lower then 20. If STL AND PHILLY are knocked out that would push it to 20. I don't see any way it goes one more spot.

Detriot had a better record than Phoenix too, they are only the 3 cause they won the pacific. So that's another that would pick later plus Wash.

"2012 NHL Mock Draft: Predicting Where Top Instant Contributors Will Land"

"10. Tampa Bay Lightning - Griffin Reinhart, D, Edmonton

Tampa Bay has plenty of skill at forward at the NHL level and in its minor league system, but the Lightning have been trying to reshape their blueline and will continue the process with Reinhart."

The 5th defenseman taken in their draft

I wouldnt be pissed if we kept ALL our draft picks and used FA to fill the holes. Getting a bunch of solid prospects would help us so much going forward. May not turn into domination over night but one day....

More and more I'm leaning towards signing Vokoun to a reasonable multi-year contract, draft a solid d man at 10 and one of the aforementioned goalies with Detroits pick. Then round out the draft with BPA.

Yzerplan.

Did Murray pick Connolly or was that remnants from the Cowboy era?

Murray wasn't here yet. Darryl Plandowski was in charge of Amateur Scouting (now below Murray) and Jim Hammett, a native of British Columbia, was director of player personnel at the time (now Pat Verbeek). Charlie Hodge can also be given credit since he scouts the WHL. He was the only amateur scout to come on stage when the pick was made. Yzerman brought Verbeek over 20 days before the pick, but other than that the draft table and Lawton made scouting department was untouched until after the draft.

I know everyone expects us to take a D with the 10th pick, what if someone falls to us, Reilly and Trouba are gone. I'd rather take BPA for Teravainen/Galchuynuk/Grigorenko if it's any of them and take a D at 20. The fall off from Reilly/Trouba/Dumba/Murray to the next tier is big and that next tier are all similar rated. I know we have good depth up front but you can't pass up superior talent. We also can go D heavy in 2nd round.

That's actually exactly what Al Murray has said. They will take the BPA regardless of position.

Although Murray, Trouba, Dumba, and Reilly are probably the best 4 defenseman available, Reinhart, Ceci, and even Maatta aren't all that far behind them from what I can tell. I was hoping for Maatta with Det's 1st (currently at #19 I think), but he's had a great year and had monster playoffs, so some scouts have him going as high as the top 10.

I think, but am not certain, that if NY loses to Washington, Detroit's 1st becomes the 18th overall.

I think the pick is gonna be 20 is Wash wins and 21 NY, either way I can see Maata being there still. Either way any D we get this year won't be ready for 2-3 years anyway.

Most up to date rankings I've seen have us at 19 currently.

We hold #10 and #19

If one of the super talented forwards drops to us at #10, I'd take him. Lord knows Murray and Dumba aren't dropping. If everybody is gone, deal back into the middle of the 1st or late first, that is where I would want to be with the quantity of skilled dmen this draft has. You can't go wrong at drafting a swede on defense, look around the league for evidence of that. But the guy who I would pick up if he fell into the mid to late 1st would be Ceci. #10 would be too early though

Craig Button on Tsn in april had Murray at 12, Trouba at 13, Rielly at 4, Dumba at 2, and Ceci at 11. Subban moved to 10

Craig Button is an idiot in my opinion believing Murray will move all the way to 12. If he is available at 10 we should be picking him. Oh and he has Grigorenko at 14

Agreed. No way we take Subban at 10...

Grigorenko or Murray at #10 would be amazing.

Murray will not last past 5 and doubt Grigorenko would either, depends on how they do at the combine. Grigorenko doesn't fit as much a need after taking Namestivkov last year, and he's got work ethic issues. Would prefer Teravainen/Galchunyuk for a foward and Reilly/Trouba for D.
