Tonight your Carolina Hurricanes complete their home 2011-2012 season. Unlike last year at this time, the 2 points from tonight's game are not needed or wanted. However, it is hat night and that means Eric Staal will have a hat trick so we will embrace the win.
Does someone seriously hold a grudge against Cole?
I like Cole, but I could have done without the "gonna make the playoffs every year, gonna contend for Cups," comment when he first said it. It rubbed me a bit wrong. I'm not alone in that sentiment, as I know fellow fans who feel the same way.
That said, I like Cole. Always have, always will. But I didn't exactly choke up when Montreal missed the playoffs this year.

I'm on the other end as I took no exception to his comments, especially because what he said was basically true at the time. MTL had only missed the playoffs once (2006/2007) in the past 7 seasons. Conversely, over that timeframe, the Canes had only made it twice out of 7 seasons. Plus, players trying to fit in will try to endear themselves to that fanbase with comments like that so I take it with a grain of salt.
I'm glad Cole has had the success he's had over the past two seasons and he's been sorely missed this year not only on the ice, but in the locker room also It remains to be seen if he can stay healthy for the rest of his contract. Really goes to show how well he could have done all these years if the neck injury never occurred.

I'm with you on this. Cole is actually my all-time favorite Cane, but he really irked me this past summer. All of his talk before July 1st was about how much his family loves the area, he want return a cane, etc. I don't blame the guy for wanting to maximize his payout in the twilight of his career, but I don't think you should make comments like that to the media when your eyes are really on the dollar signs.

Does someone seriously care if someone holds a grudge against Cole?
I don't consider myself to hold the least bit of a grudge against him. I like the guy and am happy for the success he had this season. However, I can't help but feel a bit smug when his team that "always makes the playoffs" finishes last in the conference. If that means I'm holding a grudge, then I guess I am.

I wouldn't mind being on the winning end of a blowout. I don't believe we have had one this season. With that said, 3-2 loss.
Beating the Caps 5-0 in February at home was as good as it got. The 4-1 win in Boston in October pretty much felt like a blowout, even though the scoreboard didn't reflect that.
you can't blame a guy for wanting to be on a team that is committed to winning. sure they are out this year but you can bet they are going to make serious (and reasonable) efforts to fix that and will likely be back in next year. that's well more than we can say about the hurricanes. also he was making comments to a team and fan base that he had just joined so of course there is going to be a degree of bias. our players do the same here.
I just want to see a good game so I can go into the off season on a good note. The last few years, that last home game were heartbreakers. Win or lose, I just want a good hard fought game. A blow out by the Canes would be nice, but at this point, just give me a good game.
And seriously has this team not gotten a hat trick at all this year. Well no better time than tonight to get the first.
Some dude for the National Post did some research and figured out what happened.

I hope that knowing the truth doesn't kill the mystique haha
