They are. Carey Price is out for the remainder of the season due to a concussion.

MTL: Cole, Cole, Cole, Gomez, Kaberle
CAR: Staal, Staal, Staal (it is hat night after all), LaRose or Ruutu

Note: all Carolina goals scored in 1st period; all Montreal goals scored in last 5 minutes and OT.

So you're saying the Canes lose in OT?

Montreal will tank harder than Toronto. They need #2 overall.

The Canadiens are screwed next year. They are close to the cap, while only losing 4.5 million in cap space and having 11 RFA's to resign, including Subban, Eller, Emelin and Price.

I don't see how they are going to be able to afford any hockey players that will actually positively change their roster, let alone a player who is simply not a warm body.

BTW, Cap Geek says that they have 18 million in cap space, but that is because they only have 16 players under contract. And only 5 of the 15 players not under contract are UFA's.

Buying out Scott Gomez helps, but only to the tune of 4 million in cap space.

I could see them being in a Blackhawks 2010 situation, where they need to shed space desperately to help improve the team AND keep the core pieces together. Perhaps we could take advantage of that?

Meh, Subban is decent. Nothing special, but a serviceable player. Now, if JR was smart, he'd put a package centered around Erik Stall to get Franchise Defenseman Jake Gardiner from the Leafs.

lol disgusting homer. You really think the Leafs would give up Gardiner for an overpaid 2nd line center like Stall?

I'd like Stall on the Leafs, but Kessel, Phaneuf, Lupul, Kadri, Schenn, Colborne, Gardiner, Gunnarsson and Steckel are all untouchable. Maybe something like Grabovski+Franson for Stall+Murphy can be worked out?

9 - 1 Hurricanes. Skinner with the Ovech-trick. Good thing it's just hat night, and they didn't hand out free Ovech's at the start of the game. That would be a mess.

Larose had a helluva shift there. Didn't score, but a great shift.

Now why couldn't have Tripp been between the benches tonight?

Absolutely not. You clearly know nothing about hockey. Mike Murphy has a 1000% save percentage in the NHL. He will lead us to the promised land of 9th place season after season.

Unless you meant Ryan Murphy? But why would anyone want that smurf?

No room between the benches tonight. They've had to extend Montreal's bench to fit Kaberle.
