If we end up picking from 2-6 we have a shot at a good player.....

Yakupov
Grigorenko
Forsberg
Murray
Dumba
Trouba

Id welcome anyone of those kids....

Also Dalton Thrower should be on Garth's Radar, Kids a beast.

Jaynen Rissling will be a late round project pick, but I would love us to get our hands on him..

Lose the next two games and we find ourselves in prime position to draft the kid who will hope this franchise the most: Ryan Murray.

Columbus: Yakupov
Edmonton: Grigorenko
Montreal: Galchenyuk/Forsberg (they've got a wealth of defensive prospects)
Islanders: Choice of Murray or Dumba... but Murray is ready to immediately step into a top-4 role.

If someone wins the lottery, they get Yakupov and Columbus settles for Grigorenko. Edmonton at 3 might take Murray, but we'd still get Dumba.

Basically we just really need to hold onto 4th... even if we get passed by a team that wins the lottery like last year we still get a top pick. I might punch something if this draft position slips away from us.

Don't you know? Karma always comes back to bite us on the behind. We'll finish 4th and someone like Minny (who could use a defenseman) will push us back to 5th. Murray and Dumba will be gone by the time we pick.

Murray's as good as Larsson coming out last year. If Larsson can help the Devils to a playoff berth, I'm pretty sure Murray can beat Aaron Ness & company in training camp. Streit, Murray, Hamonic, AMac, CDH/Donovan, and a defensive d-man UFA make up our opening night top 6.

And even if Minnesota wins the lottery, we're still good:

CBJ: Yakupov
MIN: Grigorenko
EDM: Murray/Dumba
MTL: Galchenyuk/Forsberg
NYI: Whoever EDM doesn't pick

EDM is going to pick before us unless we win the lottery, and EDM will not pass on Murray....And if Dumba and Forsberg are on the board when we pick, I have a feeling Garth will take Forsberg......

Possible, but EDM arguably needs a #2 center to go along with RNH just as much as they need a defenseman. It depends on how highly they value Grigorenko and Galchenyuk. As of now I think they take Grigorenko, although a lot can change come draft day.

BTW, even if we finish 4th and get bumped to the 5th pick we should be in good shape. Yakupov, Grigorenko, Galchenyuk, Murray, Dumba. IMO these 5 are a cut above the rest, with Trouba just a notch below. I haven't seen much of Forsberg so I don't know where I would lump him in. Some people I've seen think he is just as good as the guys in that 1st group, and some think he's nowhere close. I would by no means take him with a top-5 pick, but if we end up winning these last 2 games and finish closer to the 8th pick, I'd consider taking him if he was still available.

Agreed. I'll be surprised if Murray doesn't go straight to the NHL next season, especially if he's drafted by a team with as many holes on defense as the Islanders.

That may be the case, but I see the Forsberg over Dumba happening too. The defenseman we desire will be the 2nd pick the Isles make. Maybe we'll move up to get one, but I doubt that since Garth doesn't have enough picks to do it and he loathes giving up assets. It'll be just like last year.

Minny comes back to tie late and then win. That was good. Now, go Ducks.

Not if we pick 4th. I hope.

Maybe we need to trade a significant asset to land Murray? Something needs to happen to end this cycle of **** for defense.

The biggest game on Saturday with respect to our draft position is TOR vs. MON.

We need it to go to OT.

If we win in COL, then we want TOR to win in OT.

If we lose in COL, then we want MON to win in OT.

My gut feeling is that TOR jumps 'ahead' of us on Saturday. I see them losing to Montreal while we win in Columbus.

Take a look at the standings again Chapin. Montreal winning is of no use to us. The best we can do this draft is now 4th place.

Not sure I understand. If I'm reading the standing correctly, Montreal is finishing lower than the NYI and that can't change. The Isles can finish from 4-7 only. So the only teams we care about now are TOR, MIN and ANA. Right?

Montreal can't catch us. We want Toronto to get at least a point and we don't care what Montreal gets. And if we lose, it makes no difference at whether Toronto gets a point or not.

Edit - just saw last two posts - PSYCH!

Great minds think alike, but some type faster. We both lost that race.

And once again, go Ducks!

So, iif Minnesota and us have the same amount of points after the final game, i'm guessing Minnesota picks ahead of us because of the non-shootout win category?? Do they hold the tiebreaker over us??

Update for games thru Apr 5th

All non playoff teams enter the Draft Lottery. Winner jumps 4 places in draft order.

17. Dallas 89 Pts
18. Calgary 88 Pts
19. Colorado 88 Pts
20. Buffalo 88 Pts
21. Winnipeg 83 Pts
22. Tampa Bay 82 Pts
23. Carolina 82 Pts

81 pts is the max if we win our final game this Saturday.

24. Minnesota 81 Pts ROW 24
25. Anaheim 80 Pts ROW 31
26. Toronto 80 Pts ROW 31
27. Isles 79 Pts ROW 27
28. Montreal 76 Pts ROW 25
29. Edmonton 74 Pts ROW 27
30. Columbus 63 Pts ROW 24

ROW - Total number of Regulation plus Overtime Wins

Tiebreaker rules
1.The greater number of games won, excluding games won in the Shootout. This figure is reflected in the ROW column.
2.The greater number of points earned in games between the tied clubs. If two clubs are tied, and have not played an equal number of home games against each other, points earned in the first game played in the city that had the extra game shall not be included. If more than two clubs are tied, the higher percentage of available points earned in games among those clubs, and not including any "odd" games, shall be used to determine the standing.
3.The greater differential between goals for and against for the entire regular season. NOTE: In standings a victory in a shootout counts as one goal for, while a shootout loss counts as one goal against.

Time to update: We are still 4th. Boy I hope tonight's win does not cost us Murray or Dumba. I think 3rd is the best position in this draft. Hope for the bouncing balls!!!

The simple part: if Isles don't WIN, they finish 4th. Even if they get a point.

A tie or a loss is what we should root for.
JT gets his points and we tie 10 - 10 into OT with a loss in the SO
