I would have no problem admitting when the Flyers are at fault or if they whine. My problem is the extent to which the Pens' org goes to cry wolf. Mario is the biggest offender of it.
I love physical hockey, I just think if you want to dish it out you better be able to take it.
If the Pens' org did that, I wouldn't dislike them more than any other team in the league.
Think it's a coincidence the Flyers' biggest rival was the Devs not long ago, whose team is like 50 mins away, and now its the Pens? It's because of constant inability to admit faults rather than point fingers.
Nobody is crying wolf, nobody is being a hypocrite, I addressed both of your examples by the way.

Crosby's hit is constantly brought up too, my question is why is it so hard to say both are at fault? Flyers fans keep defending Schenn and calling Bylsma and Crosby babies because Crosby did it first, doesn't make Schenn's hit any less cheap, does it? When Pacioretty hit Letang in the head a few months ago, if Letang came back and did the same thing, would Letang's hit be a clean hit since it was done to him first? Absolutely not.

Crosby didn't hit Schenn after the whistle. Please get facts straight please.
No, not just like Schenn's. Crosby was finishing a check, he did so late, yes, but it was still in the play, and isn't even close to being uncommon.
Going up and cross checking a player well after the whistle as they are gliding back to the bench...not so common.
Not to mention, I find it hilarious that people, while accusing Crsoby of being a baby, are bringing up the very mature "but but he started it!" defence.
If you're referring to the hit Crosby put on Schenn a few seconds before he crosschecked Crosby, then you are the one who is wrong. It was certainly a bit late, but not after any whistle.
Yeah, can you show me where the whistle is before Crosby hits/bumps Schenn there? (Hint, the whistle hadn't blown yet, or really wasn't close to blowing either)

I tried to resist posting on the main boards, but this post...it's just so horrible and strange I had to respond.
Crying wolf? The Mario thing occurred because the Islanders concussed one of his rookies and then punched him while down, then mocked him. And, another player tried to sucker punch Talbot (a current Flyer) from behind for a clean hit that occurred a while ago. Neither of those events was in the vein of a hockey play. A knee on knee or a hit from behind? That's a little different. They happen, it's a fast sport.
Admitting faults? The team admitted that the huge suspension to Cooke was warranted last year. The organization wanted fines to happen to clubs for that sort of behavior. Cooke completely turned his game around. How many clubs actually say that they think a suspension was warranted for their own player? Not many. You also didn't hear the Penguins organization whine when Pacioretty concussed Letang, yet Briere gets a little back bruise and Crosby hits Schenn a little late and there's 30 threads about it on the main boards, with people equating the Penguins actions to murder. And the coaches and media go crazy with it too. It's so stupid I can't even wrap my head around it.
The beef you have might be with the actual fans...newsflash, fans are homers! They speak irrationally when it comes to their teams. Of course people aren't going to admit that a hit their player performed was dirty.
A lot of the rookies have done well, but one of the worries no one mentions is the number of key guys who are so young, guys like Schenn and Sean Couturier. You would have to think that is a large advantage that may be exploited during a seven game playoffs. It is even the focus of Flyer fans' avatars. At some point I think that the inexperience of the Flyers will at some point derail them in the playoffs. But I see it barely mentioned here.
Not really sure what the Pens did to be labeled as "arrogant". Don't recall any players claiming they're the best team or that they'll beat whoever they're playing. The recent cheap shots are unfortunate, however, they aren't a dirty a team. At least no more dirty than the flyers or any other team complaining about the Penguins' actions.
Lavvy doesn't like Bylsma's lineup decision to play the 4th line late in the game? Yea go complain to the media about it. Because Vitale, Adams, and Asham are such goons. Torterella thinks the Pens are arrogant? Why don't stop getting outplayed by the Pens for once.
I'm sensing a double standard here. Pens are always under the spot light cuz of Sid and Geno, so when they do something bad it's magnified times 100. When another team does something bad, it's just another incident.
So, what did you think of Laviolette's actions last Sunday, and Briere's and Berube's comments/whining afterwards?
I think that he was aggrivated because he saw Vitale's hit (though clean) to have the intent to injure.
As a coach, you have to be livid, a week out of the playoffs, when someone delivers a hit with the intent to injure.
That's all. I think going to the media afterwards is stupid for any team/coach/player/etc. Address it on the ice, not when it's you and a bunch of recorders - what does that solve?
it just creates drama for the next game. Stand up and be a man when you have a problem.
Are there any other guaranteed playoff matchups or is this the only one?
Not in the East.
Possible match ups:
1. Rangers (locked in) v. 8. Capitals, Senators, Panthers
2. Bruins (locked in) v. 7. Senators, Capitals, Panthers
3. Pathers, Capitals v. 6 Devils (Locked in)
4. Pens v. 5. Flyers
West, there's no locked in matchups. In fact, I don't think any team is locked into a seed yet in the West (opposed to 5 teams being locked in in the East). Chicago may be locked in to 6th, don't know the tiebreaker w/ Detroit.

All things aside, I did LOVE Torts' comments.
But I think it's more important for a coach to see things as they are instead of what they want to see. Lavi made a snap judgement and was completely wrong, and then he just ran with it. I saw Letang's dive, thought he got a stick up high, watched the replay and yeah, it was a complete farce. If I stuck to my guns, I'd be as wrong as Lavi to insist that Vitale was looking to injure Briere.

Bolded #1: Since when is a clean open-ice hit called "intent to injure"? If that is the case, close up shop and let's all go watch some basketball, because hockey officially sucks now.
Bolded #2: Don't you mean "Go cry to the media when you are pouting!" when speaking of Tort's comments?
