Can someone recap the scenario where Ottawa finishes in 8? If Washington wins, don't they move up to 3, and Florida falls to 8? Oh if Washington wins and Florida doesn't get a point. Something like that?

If WSH wins they move to 3rd temporarily. If FLA either wins or gets a point (OT loss or SO loss) they move back up to 3rd and WSH drops to 7th since they either have more regulation wins or they won the season series vs OTT (I forget which).
At which point OTT drops to 8th and gets the Rags.
If you aren't winning the cup.......it does not matter anyway.
Of course it matters. losing in the second round is preferable to losing in the first round in many ways. It means increased profit for the organization, increased experience for the players, and increased enjoyment for the fans. "Cup or Bust" is a childish mentality. I think it's absurd when people say "well, you've got to beat the Bruins eventually regardless." This is foolish for 2 reasons. 1) Some random team that matches up well against the Bruins could easily knock them off. Clearly the Sens do not match up well against the Bruins. 2) Even if we do end up playing the Bruins in round 2 and losing, that's still far better than losing to them in round 1, for all the aforementioned reasons.
At this point, I'm just happy that we aren't playing Buffalo, Toronto, Pittsburgh, New Jersey for the Nth time.
I think those 4 teams might be 1/2 to 2/3's of our playoff series.

I'm always going to remember Ottawa's SCF's run and being 2 1/2 minutes away from the Finals in '03. Heck, every series victory was great.

Agreed. Even 1 round is amazing. Hell, one playoff win is amazing. The feeling is like nothing else.
This team is pretty young, and I think momentum could play a huge part in how they do this year. If they get some momentum in the first round it could mean that they go past the second.
Ive liked this team all year. I was one of the few that saw them in the playoffs, and I really think they could make noise there. Anderson is the type of goalie that can steal a series. Spezza and Alfie have proven to be clutch, and Karlsson certainly looks like he will be (based on his one PO appearance and regular season stats when we are down by a goal or tied).
