I don't get why people are so happy not to play Boston only to play the Rangers instead.
It's not like we narrowly miss the Bruins and instead get to line up against the 1975 Washington Capitals, here... we'll still have to knock off the President's Trophy winners, aka: the best team in the entire league.
Bruins or Rangers... 6 of one, half-a-dozen of the others.

Bruins won the cup last year.
Bruins are a tougher, grittier team.
Bruins seem to outplay us every game.
Sens - Rangers games seem to be more even.
All and all, I think a Sens - Rangers series would be better to watch. Especially because I'm not expecting a cup, I'm just hoping for an interesting series and see how it goes from there.
I hear you, but Boston has just owned us this year. We play very well against the Rangers. It'll be a faster skill set game too, which I think would go better for us.

Out of curiosity, when's the last time a President's winner won the cup the same year?
I'm not sure there's anyone there that thinks they're going to be.
Well, maybe the Panthers.
I would just like to see a entertaining series, not one where I'm constantly raging, and if we played Boston, I'd probably shorten my life by about 10 years because I'd always be angry.
Another reason why I don't like to play Boston is because there are thousands of their fans at SBP every time. Probably third most after Toronto and Montreal.

Sens fans wouldn't give up tickets to Bruins fans during a playoff series. I can guarantee that.
NYR is the 2nd best possible outcome for our season at this time. 15th overall pick (assuming we don't make the conference finals), we make/made the playoffs AND we play a team who hasn't outright browbeaten this season.
Yes the Rangers are still scary, but they aren't Boston scary so it's the lesser of 2 evils.
Also, that draft pick could be parley'd into a top 10 pick (packaged with another pick or forward prospect) or it could be used to move down a bit to add more draft picks this year to use towards D. In short it gives us more flexibility than even the 17th pick we'd more than likely get otherwise.
We are a rebuilding team and playing the Rangers would mean our second best case scenario has been met, the BEST case scenario would obviously be us winning the cup.
Sens fans should know better than anyone that you don't factor regular season statistics when it comes to playoff expectations. Whether we play Boston or New York doesn't really matter to me. I just don't think we should be 'targeting' to play a specific team or make it a foregone conclusion that Boston would destroy us because they've won 9 of the last 10 regular season games. I'm pretty sure we had similar statistics with the Leafs in the early 2000's. It means nothing at all.

I don't know about the rest of you but i'm rooting for the best possible draft spot that we can get while being in the playoffs.

Breaking news: This is still a rebuild
I wasn't in huge favour of dropping of playing to play the rangers, the main good thing about dropping is the higher draft pick, in a lot of ways I would prefer boston over new york

Canucks, Oilers, Wing and Hawks have a **** ton of fans at SBP too, more so than Bruin imo
IF this ends up being the case the only way I could be happier with this season is if we won the cup.
IMO aside from winning the cup, this is the best possible scenario for the long term future of the franchise.
Winning the cup is every team best possible scenario. If we won, it would be the most amazing scenario. Considering we're rebuilding team. I'm not putting any stock into a cup though.
