Pffft. Madden said it best last night. Philly's nowhere near as tough as people think they are.
Even Flyers fans don't think they are tough, they get defensive every time someone brings up the broad street bullies because all of a sudden they're against that style of hockey, weird.
But yeah the only toughness the Flyers got is, Jody Shelley, an overpaid goon and Zac Rinaldo, who by the reaction of some Flyers fans, is their version of Matt Cooke.

Rinaldo's the idiot who got fined TWICE for two separate incidents in the same game.

I don’t know what he’s talking about. I mean, if you want you can put a camera on us all game, put a camera on (Ryan Callahan) all game. You’ll see who’s over there more. He should worry about his own players.
On if it’s a gamesmanship:
Yeah, a lot of it. I don’t know when this all started, if this is part of the new tactics in the playoffs, but it’s garbage. The games played on the ice. You get all this stuff going on. It really is garbage. It’s nonsense and if they want to do it great, but I’m not going to waste my time answering questions about it all the time. It’s getting pretty old.
On if the talk accomplishes anything:
If anything, they are trying to persuade the officials who are not making calls and second-guessing things. I hope it doesn’t affect us. I really hope they aren’t listening to (those comments) because it’s nonsense. They are trying every which way to gain an advantage. Go ahead try it, but we’re not paying a lot of attention to it. It’s just old.
On the general comments of his demeanor:
It’s coming out of Philly, which has been coming out for seven years since I’ve been in the league. I’ll be the first one to admit my first couple of years I was pretty hard on the refs. I’ve come a long way since then, but I’m nowhere near where I was then and to get those kinds of remarks every day is uncalled for and not warranted. I don’t really know how much I can say. I don’t need to sit here and defend myself for something that’s not going on, but if they want to try that garbage try it.
Now things rarely go as expected, but it would be comedy if that is the route it goes , especially in order, considering the week we just had facing those teams with all of them crying about our team afterwards.

On when he learned to back off from the refs:
I think after a while you learn it’s a waste of your energy. It doesn’t help anything. They’re not going to change their mind after penalties. Yelling isn’t really going to help. I think it’s just something with time you learn. It’s experience and I’m a pretty competitive guy, but you’ve got to learn to kind of control that sometimes and put your energy towards things that matter. That’s playing hockey. I think it’s been a gradual thing. There’s no doubt I’m emotional. There are times when I’m going to get fired up, but not enough to warrant all that. It’s nonsense. You can put a camera on me all game if you want. It’s not even close.

On if he wants to play tomorrow:
Do I want to play? Yeah, for sure.
On if he knows if Dan Bylsma will play him:
He hasn’t told me that I’m not, so I expect that I’m playing.

On if the Flyers’ choose to mix it up Saturday:
I don’t know. We’ll see if that happens or when that happens. That’s not something we’re looking for. I’m sure both teams are looking to play a good game, but that being said, things happen in hockey games. Everyone will be ready to respond if that happens, but nobody’s looking for that as far as our side. We’re not looking for that.

I'm looking for Orpik to step it up big time. He's had a pretty ****** year so far, but he has always come to play in the playoffs and he is one of the leaders of this team and the elder statesman. I hope he makes this new breed of Flyers - the soff, skilled breed - feel miserable everytime they come in to forecheck.
As for Sid's comments, bravo. Love to see that attitude. He's been dealing with that crap for so long I'm sure he's as sick of it as we are.
Crosby said those things? Seriously? Did hell freeze over? My mind is blown.
The concussion probably did something . I remember the first time he came back and his response to the Nick Foligno stuff and what Bryan Murray was saying about him wasn't your typical Robot Sid response. It's great. I hope this Sid (less of your typical hockey cliches 101 answers and says what's on his mind) is here to stay.

Or maybe after years of bland, diplomatic responses still resulting in the same garbage being tossed his way, Sid just finally said '**** it. Damned if you do, damned if you don't' and decided to just speak his mind.

The great thing about this Sid is even when he's speaking his mind, he's still pretty diplomatic and careful about what he says. There's a way to say what's on your mind without constantly dropping f bombs and looking like an idiot. I think Sid's learned how to straddle the line between being diplomatic but still being honest.
Reposting the Sid video from today. Not to restart any of the stuff from the massive multi-threads lockdown that went on here earlier tonight, but more in case people missed it. Less for the content but more for seeing Sid actually opening up, unlike his usual guarded interviews. It was a treat to watch for that reason, and in case some of you missed it, here it is:
As an aside, we have seen how emotions can drive Crosby to extra levels. Especially against Philadelphia. I wonder how smart it was to goad Crosby like this with a playoffs coming up. I have not seen him that pissed as he was in that interview in a long time. Maybe ever. Yeah, it was responding to Torts, but hard on the heels of Milbury and Laviolette's stupidity and calling him and the organization out. So I am certain that will play a role. I could see Crosby going Nuclear on the Flyers as he has so often in the past when they poked the hornets nest with Crosby. To the tune of a couple of points per game average. The Flyers seem to be putting their top pairing on Malkin anyways.

Watching this video makes me almost feel how fired up Sid is to prove a point. Why the hell are coaches trying to fire these guys up? Have they not learned that lesson before? Do not piss off stars who are willing to explode.
