Cost of protecting Mario Lemieux apparently starts with $20,000 out of John Tortorella's pocket.
Larry Brooks @NYP_Brooksie
Lemieux writes public letter threatening to sell team, excoriating league and gets off scot-free for his tantrum.
Anyone know what Brooks is talking about with the letter by Mario?
Last season, after the Islanders-Penguins brawl on Long Island, Mario write an open letter about the Islanders comprimising the integrity of the NHL and about his thinking he would sell the team as a result. What was the outcome? Islanders fined $100,000. Penguins fined zero.

I can't believe the NHL is still kissing Mario's ass.
I get he was screwed over a lot of cash from the penguins organization but does the rest of the NHL teams have to be held hostage?
I mean they fix entry drafts, tilt the ice with their officiating and now fine or penalize anyone for calling them out.
What happened to the Penguins when they came right out and said they were going to throw games just to get higher picks? Nothing but rewarded.
IMO. If an organization needs this much catering to then let it fold and move somewhere else.
The only diving Callahan does is blocking shots and making extra efforts to score goals. That had to be the stupidest thing I've ever read coming out of a hockey "fan's" mouth.

That is what Brooks is referring to.
And it is simply amazing that Lemieux was allowed to get off scot-free on that.
The NHL is one mixed up, mish-mash of a league sometimes. Everything they do, or do not do, seems to be so off the cuff.
Nice to see commentators and coaches around the league calling it as they see........Milbury may be a dink but he was right in most of the comments he made. I am sure Torts has some haters too........Laviolette as well.............listen..........50% or more of the NHL audience completely understands where these guys are coming from in the remarks. The Pens are favored cause its Marios team. Its as simple as that
I've pretty much expressed my opinion of the knee on other threads, but that was uncalled for that late in a game such as this. On the plus side, sitting on the glass was a fun experience, something I could never afford to do at MSG.

Couldn't have said it any better. My thoughts completely
