Seriously who cares, I'd much rather get guys like hank, girardi and stepan rest then win a meaningless trophy that nobody aside from fans of this organization will remember in 2 years time..anybody remember who won it in 2009,08,07,06? Only reason I remember the nucks winning it last year is because they ran away with it, who gives a ****? Clearly torts doesn't and IMO that's the right way to go about it, first and home ice is locked up, having the most points shouldn't matter.
This. Who gives a **** about the PT? I'd rather be the winner of the playoffs, not the regular season.
Duh. Everyone rather be winner of the playoffs, but would you rather be winner of the playoffs and the President's Trophy, or just winner of the playoffs? The two are not mutually exclusive.
Obviously the playoffs are what really matters, but that doesn't mean you should forego accolades earned over an 82 game season. Based on the way this team has played this year, they deserve those regular season accolades, even if they aren't as impressive as playoff success.
Let's hope they prove worthy of the playoff accolades too.
Who cares about that trophy? I don't care what happens in the west now.
The way I see it, either we rest our players against Washington and see what happens. Maybe we get Florida.
Or, as we probably will face Washington in the playoffs, we steamroll them to set the tone for the rest of the series. That's what I would go for. If we then happen to win the President's trophy, well, alright.
And by the way. When Tortorella says its meaningless, he means that's not the end of the season, that's not the goal to win the Presidents Trophy and then stop preparing and stop approaching games the way they've done all year.
He doesnt mean its a meaningless accomplishment that they shouldn't win.
If you need that translated then you need work on your reading comprehension.
DO NOT start bad habits.
WIN the game on Saturday. Decisively.
Approach the game like it doesn't matter and things snowball down hill.
Approach it like winners. Prepare like winners. Think like winners. Act like winners.
So since Vancouver lost to Calgary last night... Does this mean if we win our last game that we get the Presidents Trophy? Not sure how tiebreaker works between us and Vancouver...

A few scenarios result with us winning the Presidents Trophy.
NYR win + any VAN loss
NYR win + VAN win
NYR OT/SO loss + any VAN loss
NYR reg loss + VAN reg loss
Any combination that results in NYR and VAN being tied in points or NYR having more points.
We own the tie-breaker against every team in the league. The beauty of most ROW in the league.
yeah I got destroyed when I simply posted a thread about the race for the trophy. I wasn't even playing favorites, just showing total points and match-ups.
It's trendy to act like you don't care about it...
I want the cup, thats what i want the cup in NYC.......making and clinching the playoffs with ease was a goal itslef.
You want a Cup in NYC but don't want a distinct advantage by having home ice in a 7th game?
What team wins the Cup after mailing in a big game right before the playoffs start?
If they don't show up with the intent to dominate and abuse their potential first round opponent tomorrow, they may as well not show up next week for the playoffs.

You play to win. Always.
Dude by no means am I saying just tank the last game.yes game 7 home ice is huge and i would love it,go old school DET style, play to win like every game is your last....point is im happy with how far they have come and making the post season how they done it is awesome enough...yet the ultimate goal is the cup.if your meant to win it you will win it..home or away.Stick to your system, play hard, nyr will win anywhere.
People who want game 7 to be at home in MSG if a game 7 should occur, should we get that far. That's who cares about the Presidents Trophy.
The fact that the team put them selves in position to win it.
Start conceding games right before the playoffs start? No.
Rest who needs a rest. The rest of the guys better have the right attitude. WIN.
Yep, if we rest our players against Washington and St. Louis gets 3 out of 4 points and we're to meet them in the finals, would people care then? St. Louis is the best home team in the NHL and a mediocre road team. Vancouver is a good home team too.
Tell you right now that the President's trophy only matters if the team makes it to the Stanley Cup finals. It is worth having then for the extra home game. If after all is said and done we don't win the Cup and you start telling all your friends etc. 'but we won the President's trophy'--they're going to laugh at you.
Rangers have taken positive steps forward this year--no denying that. I'd say at this point we're a legit contender.

Listen if the Jets can brag about losing in the AFC Championship 2 years in a row, we can brag about the Presidents' Trophy. We don't have so much success as an organization, no reason that PT shouldn't be an accomplishment. We're not Detroit here.

Finishing the season with the best record is something to laugh at?
Only one team of 30 can win the Cup. And its not always the best team that does. Most of the time its the team that survives and holds it together mentally.
Finishing first in the league after 82 games isn't something to be proud of?
But, they better be playing day to day with the goal to win the Cup. Otherwise just go home.

Who would laugh at a team that was the best in the regular season? That person would look like a jackass, unless they're a fan of the team that won the cup.
Take a look at the 94 Rangers team photo sometime. Wales trophy on the left, Stanley Cup in the middle, and President's Trophy on the right. Makes the season that much more impressive.
