Ryan Kesler does come across like a cocky ***** but I'll always love him for this
Plus by all accounts I've read, he treats fans well and with respect. Can't really ask for more than that. Kesler has been quiet this season, but I'm waiting to see what he does in the playoffs before I write him off.
This is ludicrous. We have a fan base who jeers Luongo every time he isn't perfect and proposes we trade him for scraps. We have a fan base who hung Naslund out to dry for years. The best coach we've had? Fire him because we lost game 7 of the cup finals and anybody could have put better lines out. Why is Kesler above even a little bit of criticism? I have nowhere near the level of hatred most people here have for Luongo, which is downright pathetic.
I have a DISLIKE, not hate, for Kesler and I need to find a new team? I support the Canucks and I like watching them succeed. I'll support any good a Canuck does for the team. I may have been slightly tipsy when I posted it, hence the over the top nature of the post. But I stand by the fact that Kesler is a golden boy in this town who, for some reason, is above criticism for his play and the attitude he projects to the media and fans.
I would like to be wrong about him. But for now I'm calling it like I see it. Also, I'm not calling him out for being injured...I said in my final post that his style of play is leading him down that path, of being broken down long before his late 30s. And to be honest, I will admit that his style of play is admirable, and when he's on, he's a beast. But I believe that his effort this season has been questionable, and he's saving it for the playoffs. If that leads him to increase his production and effectiveness in the playoffs, and he leads us to the cup, then kudos I guess. But I can't think of an example of that happening before, especially from a team leader and core player. Sorry if I hurt some of your feelings.

I like him and respect him because he's a really good player and plays his heart out for this team, absolutely no question about that... but he does spend too much time being an arrogant, immature little ***** and it gets on my nerves. The way he acts on the ice can be a detriment to himself and the team at times, in my opinion.
Basically... I love having him on the team, love the way he plays most of the time, dislike the way he acts at times.
As far as his play this season, no he hasn't been quite as good as we'd like, but it's obvious that the hip surgery is affecting his skating. He knows it and he's frustrated by it, and that only makes things worse. I think that's something he could work on though - he seems to have a tendency to get frustrated and impatient when he's not on top of his game, and when that happens he's not as effective.
No but the majority of the stuff is speculation or what he perceives as a player in decline. One is hearsay the other is a hunch. Hence being misinformed.
If he straight up said "I dont like Kes" and didnt state speculation or errors then it would be completely acceptable.
I haven't like every player myself through the years but I still would recognize talent and give credit regardless of my hate.
The only thing I hate is how being able to dangle and shoot the puck has made Ryan think he can be Alex Ovechkin out there.
But he brings it every shift and is a monster to play against. For those reasons I don't care if he can't pot one right now, because his line is built to drive the net and get greasy goals. Just lacking some confidence, which comes n goes like anything else. Look what a bit of confidence did for Higgins, he's been on fire. Same with Laps.
Kesler will find it, he's known for stepping it up when we've needed it before. The guy shut down John Toews who had just previously won a Conn Smythe, and than carried us through a series.
Have some faith that this guy has that extra gear, because no one denies they've seen it. Same goes for Booth, maybe not in the playoffs we've seen it, but he finds that confidence and gets a lucky bounce or two.

Ryan Kesler is a very good player who was worthy of the Selke last year and dominated for times in the playoffs, and the olympics. I may be speculating for reasons why, but he rubs a small minority of other Canucks fans the wrong way. We would love to change out minds and find a reason to like the guy, regardless of his flaws. I would love nothing more than to look back and laugh at this thread as Kesler holds up the Conne Smythe Trophy.

I have no problem with people disliking him but I couldnt care less personally how he treats the media or fans (if they arent children). If he's nice to kids and plays his heart out, that's all I really care about.
I agree with your remarks about Luongo and Naslund as well. I'm pretty hard on Lu but ultimately (like you), I do want him to succeed. Your first post just came off really bad I guess and problem not as bad as you intended it to be.

I wish it hadn't, I would rather create civil discussion on the status of Kesler and how it compares to other star players who have performed similarly in this city, than people telling other people to change teams
He's one of the most selfish players I've ever seen. That ****ing stick tap drives me insane.
A great player when he's on, but a quality character he is not.
You're in the dressing room? You hang out with Kes? You know Kes personally? Yeah, that went well. All you're doing is speculating, without any evidence of Kes not being a quality character guy.
If Kesler didn't have guys like the Sedins, Bieksa, Manny, etc. in the locker room, I can see that he may be a bit like Ovechkin. Both have the drive to win and play hard, but go about things their own way.

This. The media in this town are garbage, the fans boo their own players when the team is 1st in the Confrence.
Kesler's a warrior, and when he's at his best, he can be the most important player the Canucks have.
I am tired of his drama-queen antics, though. Every time he gets touched, it looks like he's going to be out 4-6 weeks.
When he's at his best, Kesler is fighting through checks, driving to the net, and a demon on the forecheck. When he's at his worst, he's clutching his face, whining to to the refs, grimmacing after some perceived slash or other, and generally acting like a bit of a diva.
Do I want Kesler to do well? Of course I do, because I want the team to do well. That doesn't mean I can't be critical of a player.
As an aside, does being a Canuck fan mean you're not able to question anything about the team? Because that's what it seems like.
I've been a Canuck fan for a long time, but apparantly I'm doing it wrong. I'm not in love with every player on the roster, I think sometimes we make bad trades, and occasionally I wonder what in the hell the coach is thinking.
Comments like "If you don't like Kesler, find a new team" are so hilariously ridiculous that it beggars belief.
If Kesler is ever traded, some of you will do a complete 180 on your opinion of him. If the Canucks acquire Brad Marchand in the offseason, some of you will have a new favourite player. If I suggested Hodgson for Kassian the day before the trade deadline, I would have been assailed by all sorts of mockery. But because it happens, everybody has to accept that's the steal of the centruy or they ain't a fan. Absurd. Cheering for laundry.
