What's the Most Favourable First Round Scenario?

What's the most favourable playoff scenario for the Hawks first round - home ice advantage against Nashville or Detroit; no home ice advantage against the Pacific winner; or it doesn't matter.

No home ice against Detroit, Dallas or SJ. Or home ice against any.

If the Hawks are healthy and keep up their play as of late and ramp it up accordingly for the playoffs then I feel they have a decent shot against anybody.

Pretty much. Worst case is 5th vs. Nashville, obviously. Looks good for 6th though, real good actually.

I forget who the guy on NHL tonight was last night, but he said it really well: the team that finishes 3rd will have been in playoff mode for weeks now, that they may 'breathe easy' if you will once they get in, and that's when a team like the Hawks can swoop in and pounce on them in game 1 and bring home ice back with them.

Dallas, Detroit or Nashville. Don't like the idea of travel to LA or San Jose in the first round.

LA: plays SJ twice to close the season out before playing EDM

PHX: CBJ, STL, MIN

SJ: DAL, LA twice

DAL: SJ, NSH, STL
------------

The stars won't evens make the playoffs, let alone be a 3 seed.

The Stars, but they're not going to get them because they won't make it.

I'd say these are the best scenarios:

- Traveling to San Jose
- Home-ice against Detroit
- Traveling to Phoenix

The way this team is set up no matchup is going to be easy, but they'd struggle the least with these.

Kelly Chase. And I don't buy that logic. Whoever finishes 3rd will be playing really well and won't be satisfied with just a division title.

To be honest I think the best matchup would be home ice against Detroit. Little travel and we have a significant advantage in speed. Plus, their PP is terrible too.

This is exactly what my rankings are. But, too bad Dallas will be the "odd man out" in the Pacific. I wouldn't mind facing either SJ or Phoenix. Just not LA. Let LA play St. Louis and produce the lowest scoring series in NHL history. I'd actually like for Vancouver to have to face San Jose. I honestly don't think Phoenix has what it takes to advance past the 1st round.

At the moment our most favorable matchup is Detroit, bar none. Four or five seed I'd rather play them than anybody else.

Then comes Nashville, and with Radulov being Radulov I'm a little torn on this one.

Lastly is LA because Quick is a monster.

Detroit and St. L are tied at the end of regulation time and now going to OT...so Detroit's guaranteed a point. At the end of tonight, the Hawks, Preds, and Wings will all have played 80 games and Preds and Wings will both be at least 2 pts ahead of Hawks.

ETA - Detroit won, so gets 2.

4 Detroit CEN 80 48 27 5 101
5 Nashville CEN 80 46 26 8 100
6 Chicago CEN 80 44 26 10 98

Avoid LA and Nashville. Best situation would be the Stars, but Detroit still bothers the hell out of me.

I guess we'll just have to see where this one goes. :/

After the Wings win last night, unless the Preds tank, it looks like we're taking 6th seed. Hopefully someone can dethrone the Kings. Coyotes are probably the best hope for that.

This, though looking like Dallas won't make it in.
