Decent post but this quote about Subban vs Gardiner... Gardiner is a great young dman... Congrats on having him... But I don't think you realize just how good PK really is.
- PK had 53 points in his first and only AHL season and was an astounding +46 as a young rookie there. He got 10 points in 7 games in the playoffs.
- That same year, he got into the NHL for the playoffs and helped the habs make their way into the 3rd round WHILE PLAYING THE MOST MINUTES ON MANY NIGHTS...
- 38 points rookie season. Defensive beast for a good part of the year.
- is now by far the most complete defenseman on the team always playing against opposition top lines AND STILL HAVING A +7 RATING ON A LAST PLACE TEAM. Plays more than 25 minutes on a regular basis. Penalty kill and powerplay fixture.
Gardiner MIGHT match his offensive numbers but PK is a beast with his: defensive coverage, puck protection, puck control, physical play, ability to clear the zone, intensity, etc.
As much as I like Gardiner, I gotta admit that PK's energy and passion is something that id love on the leafs. PK just seems to have so much heart, something that I dont see from Gardiner yet (possibly because he's a rookie)

Yes... That's his biggest asset. There are so many lazy players out there, it's refreshing to see a guy like that.
He got flack for a few intense moments with teammates in practices... But people in Montreal have now realized that it's because he's as intense in practices as he is in games. We can see he's a good teammate by how he reacts in games towards them and them towards him.
Hopefully both Gardiner and Subban will be able to lead their team into contender status one day so we can have a rivalry based on excellence instead of mediocrity.
The Leafs won't be a contender next year, no matter what happens this summer, so why not cheer for them to lose all 82 games and go for first overall in 2013?
This is it fellas. The difference between Kadri and a Schenn/Kane. It came to last game as well, last time around.
I don't know what to think anymore really. Last game was so emotionally draining, thinking it was all over until amazingly all 3 of NYI, Ducks and Minny won as well.
All we can do is hope, hope is all that we've got right now. Hopefully we'll lose in regulation and secure the 5th or better yet 4th spot tomorrow night.
OEL or Kadri.
Man, there is such a huge gap between picks 6 and 7 it isn't funny.

This entire thread is pathetic. How can any self-respecting Leafs fan cheer for the Habs? I don't care if the Habs winning would save the freaking world, I'm sticking with the Leafs.
It's also beyond sad that things have gotten so awful we have a huge number of people on the board cheering for losses. Where the hell does this stop? The Leafs won't be a contender next year, no matter what happens this summer, so why not cheer for them to lose all 82 games and go for first overall in 2013?
Let's see, lose the final game and draft the more likely better player in top 5 and potentially a future top C that is probably the most beneficial for the Leafs, or win a game that does absolutely nothing helpful for the Leafs but more likely weaken their future drafting out of the top 5.
As much as I like Gardiner, I gotta admit that PK's decision making and lack of hockey sense often leave his team open for odd man rushes against. PK just seems to pinch at the wrong times, something that I dont see from Gardiner yet (possibly because he's a smart player)

I guess it depends how you look at it. I dont look at it as cheering for the Habs. I honestly dont give a **** who we are playing, i'm just hoping we lose the game so we get a higher pick which increases our chances of getting an impact player. Winning this game does nothing to help our future. Losing, may not help, but there's a solid chance it will.
I like to look at wanting to tank and not wanting to tank kind of like different religions. Believe what you want, or in this case cheer for tanking or not tanking, but don't force it down other's throats. If someone doesnt want the team to lose, good for them, it doesnt effect me, nor should it. If people want the team to lose, who cares? Just cheer for the what you want to happen because that's all that should matter to you.
Won't be much of a matchup if he can't hold PK's jock.
Just trying to spice things up lol, I took a leap of faith trying to stir some interest in this finale and hoping I wouldn't get infracted. But honestly, Gardiner has been on fire lately. Let's see how he does in the final game against someone he's eventually going to be compared to all throughout the offseason.

I'd hope Gardiner's comparison wouldn't be Subban. There are aspects to Subban's game, as I alluded to earlier, that would make me hope for more from Gardiner. Much, much more.
Does anyone believe the Leafs are that much better than Montreal?
Sure they've been in tank mode, but is Montreal really as bad as their record?
They don't have to tank they are guaranteed the spot they want right? No pressure win or lose they are top 3 for the draft.
Habs win this or they truly are a lottery team and will be back in the lottery next year in a 4-5 year rebuild.
Yes.
Speaking as a Hab fan I can say this, they have been very bad for years. They have been bailed out by a top 5 PP and a top 5 PK. Add to that a stellar goaltending performance, and you can mask alot of a teams problems.
This year the PP went into the toilet and here they are where they should probably have been in the past 3-4 years. If it were not for a good season by Price and a really great PK, we would be in a fight for 1st pick with CBJ.
Losing one meaningless game to insure we have a better prospect? Sign me up.
So you feel its meaningless do you? Good grief.....
News flash, Its the Montreal Canadians against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Since when is the oldest rivalry in all of sports become meaningless? A good player will still be there at 6.
I'll take the win over the habs any day of the week, and so will the players and leaf brass.

There is Yak and Grig, after that....MEH.
Forsberg, Gally, Murray and Dmba are very good players too....
Maybe they wont be superstars but would you honestly prefer to 1 win vs The Habs instead of a possible 10+ years of a very good player???
