Starting this thread up since it seems like it's about to happen...

Expecting to hear about the Stars signing a forward, and I'm going to be very interested in the fan response.

Dallas Stars always had Fiddler return as a possibility, looks like that's going to happen. Might be a multi-year deal.
I'm not happy about this.

Fiddler...really?

He's a solid player but man, why? I thought he wanted out!

Why? It's such a silly thing to be upset about. He's not blocking a guy like McKenzie. Unless this is 3 or 4 years .. he's not really blocking a Faksa.

hmm yeah.. Fiddler is 34 years old, and the simple fact of the matter is that 4th liners start to drop off quick when they enter their 30's. If it's a multi year deal, it could be a buyout candidate down the line.

That changed pretty quickly. He wanted term. There was mutual interest to return.

Sounds like he couldn't get it elsewhere.

Not upset. Upset would be trading Seguin or something.

I just don't like it and feel someone else could do his job easily.

That I'd agree with. I'm hoping this is 1 or 2 year, but I guess we'll see. He's good depth, and in the past two years he's played his best when it mattered most.

This is especially great IMO because it forces them to move a Gonchar, Cole, or Horcoff.

Cheap depth is better than $4+ million depth.

Move Cole please. I have liked Horcoff from day one and would be sad to see him go.

I'm okay with this. I was looking forward to the youth injection but the boys obviously love Vern and he really didn't slow down last year.

Good deal if it comes through.. He's become our veteran who's not afraid of anyone(ask Chara and the rat Mcquaid) and gives spark to our kids when needed. Also for him a longer contract could get some new energy outta him..

Maybe I'm a nut ... but I've been saying for a while I figured Eakin would have to move to wing if he was going to stick in Dallas. Down the line I just figured they'd have better options potentially in Dickinson, Shore, and Faksa.

What if they're doing that now? I think he'd be great as a Top 6 LW with Spezza.

Would much rather move Horcoff to wing and dumb Cole.

When you start throwing those names in people want to debate. Eakin was already a hot button idea. Just wanted to be neutral.

We know Fids worked quite well with Roussel and Garbutt though.

I know. Just wanted to state a counter argument to what I think is better. It's discussion forum after all.

All these moves are likely pointing to Ritchie and McKenzie staying in the AHL another year ... which personally I don't think is a bad idea.

I like Horcoff ... no desire to see him be a Top 6 winger.

Most teams that are penciling in rookies don't sign a bunch of one-way contracts with depth players.

Look at the defense ... they're doing nothing so I totally buy they're going youth movement.

I really hope Ritchie force's their hand ... but the level of performance they'll require, IMO, just got raised quite a bit.

I'm only talking about the bottom 6 names. I wasn't saying don't talk about it. I just know those discussions are also going on elsewhere.

Dallasman asked why the XXXX's, and that was only my reason. I don't see how that is limiting anyone in anyway personally.

Would be ok with that assuming low money and term. Good face off guy and veteran presence. Fourth line of hungry vets is never a bad thing

Very happy about Fiddler, great locker room guy! Unforgettable his penalty shot against the Bruins!

Could it be cause the contract talks with Eakin are starting to fail?

To be honest Id be okay with Eakin getting traded ONLY if Nill is confident we resign Spezza long term. Cause then Eakin can be traded in a package deal for a nice RightHanded dman in return. Lets say a package deal like Eakin + KC + 1st rounder in '15.

Just spitballing here. Go on, hate.

Not a chance. Nill has 3 months to work a contract out with Eakin. I highly doubt that's the reason.

I don't think Eakin is going anywhere.
