dantencer: Tom Renney fined $10K for "maybe you need Hollywood in the playoffs" line after game last night. Wonder what Peel and Leggo got.

JasonGregor: Renney gets fined $10,000 for his "need Hollywood in playoffs" comment...yet players can only get $2,500. Coaches need a better union.

NHLbyMatty: I trust Oilers will pay Renney's fine for speaking the truth and standing up for his players.

First off... I felt those comments were tame for what should have been an absolute tirade on the officiating we've received since the new year. If you're going to get fined 10 grand, make it worth it.

Second of all... about time.

Third of all... if someone sets up a fund I'll gladly chip in. There's not a whole lot as a fan base we can agree on, but getting shafted by the refs I feel is one of them.

Renney is just treading water at this point. Or maybe he's trying to look good for his job interviews this summer.

I'm glad he said something.

Too bad he got fined for telling the truth.

the high stick chop onto the top of RNH's head was the last straw imo.

We dont need a passive aggresive coach, we need a full on hot head. if the league wants to hate us, then lets give them a reason to, sign tootoo and let eager loose, sign another a-hole dman to play when sutton is suspended and make the league have a reason to hate the oilers.

Well it shouldn't be a shock, the players and coaches know that you can't really say anything about the officiating. What gets me is Gregor's tweet.

A wonder what the most a coach can get? You might as well just rip on the refs next time.

I'm a little ashamed but... can someone explain what that comment means, exactly, to me? I don't get it. In the recording on the Oilers web site, the audio breaks up right as the question is being asked.

Good on Renney. I'm not a huge supporter of his, but this was the right thing to do.

Renney is inferring that the referees were not calling blatant penalties being committed by the Kings as well as succumbing to Brown's antics in an effort to tilt to ice so the Kings would win the game and make the playoffs.

Too bad this comes 60 games too late.

The whole I guess you need Hollywood in the playoffs bit was tame, what he should have said was "with officiating like this why even play the game"

I take Hollywood to be simply a euphemism for LA. They want LA in the playoffs -- major market, 2nd largest media center in the US, etc, etc.

Renney gets fined for calling out ****** officiating, but Dustin Brown gets rewarded for making that said ****** officiating look even worse.

Don't refs/the league watch these games and see what this guy does on a nightly basis? He was 3 for 3 last night in diving for calls. The refs bit each time. Hook line and sinker.

Ahhhh, I get it, thanks. So, "Maybe you need [L.A.] in the play-offs"... yeah that makes A LOT of sense and is a very astute comment to boot. I thought it was some kind of reference to "acting" that didn't quite make sense in that context.

Good for Renney.

Good one two punch by Renney here.

One - Hollywood obviously referring to LA making the playoffs, and Two - referring to the diving "theatrics" of Brown.

Well done and worth it, although i agree that it's a bit too little too late.

Is this something that coaches should expect? If the Oilers didn't pay it would it piss of Renney?

This! It is about time that Renny, or anybody in the organization spoke up we need to see a little more of this (not to a Vanouver level, but more then we have been seeing.)

As for the last part I remember sabre fans shipping in to help pay off a 10K fine Ruff got one time after the Sabres/Senators Brawl in 07.

If the team wants renney to stand up for his players they should pay his fine, it represents solidarity

Pretty sure we paid a fine for MacT, but he instead donated the money to charity.

Good for Renney.
I think there might have been a veiled reference to Brown too as a few others have suggested here. Renney is pretty clever so he's certainly capable of a double entendre like that.

Rangers fan coming in peace.

Renney was the former coach of the NYR and he was always very tame.

For him to say something like that, it must be bad.

He called McGeough "********" IIRC. Not a word I like to use when describing people (call me PC if you want), but forgive MacT considering the guy he was talking about.

I doubt the NHL was smart enough to pick up on the shot at Brown's diving abilities.
